Introduction
Verses that are in defense of the phrase “We are in the world but not of the world”. I can’t not find a verse that says this exactly, but there are many imply that it.[a]
It is my testimony that when you heard words in scripture like spirit and heavenly, you speaking of a jurisdiction realm that is from above, i.e. that which we, the priests of Israel are of, in contrast to the earthly / worldly / physical realm, that we are in. A perfect example is a diplomat (but on a smaller scale). A diplomat of a country is where he is from (of) and that is where his power and authority come from. His physical office however is located in a different country, a different jurisdiction. From a legal perspective diplomats in their host countries, are treated differently then citizens of that country. The host countries law form is foreign to the diplomats.
Verses in Support
There are many verses that could support this understand. There are also numerous topics that could express this is well like, being and Ambassador to Messiah.
Joh 8:23
And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
Joh 15:17-19
17These things I command you, that ye love one another. 18If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me beforeit hatedyou. 19If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Joh 17:15-16
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
In Joh 17:15 it says that Y'shua is not praying that his disciples be taken out of the world..., therefore by implication they are to remain in the world. In Joh 17:16 it clearly declares that they are not of the world. I interpret of as like the essence of.
1Jn 2:15-16
15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 4:4-6
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:[b] because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
Rom 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The etymology of "renewing" leads you back to chadash H2319 as in brit chadasha
If as Rom11:29 says and means that Elohim is not a capricious Elohim, then what's pleasing to him now is what is pleasing to him them i.e. the Torah.
ToDo: there is probably more, but I’m done for now…publishing your stuff is a feature you know…

[a] I’m sure that I’ve written a document like this before, but can’t find it.
[b]Them. Those that do not confess the Yeshua came in the flesh therefore have the spirit of the antichrist (see 1Jn 4:3)
