BIG SHOT

Donald R. Fox

No thank you! I dislike the thought and the makeup of one who is considered a big shot. I have met some who felt and practiced the dominance of one who thinks they are important. The expression big shot is a slang word and is defined or known as, “A person who holds a great deal of clout in whatever industry/culture that they are a part of.” Further, as we define big shot is ”Used derogatorily by people to infer that the person thinks that they are important.” “One who is looked up to by people who tend to be followers of the big shot.”

If the truth is known there are many so-called big shots because of their personal make-up. We understand such folks are “in love with themselves." Sadly, many are bosses or have a position of authority. I met many when I was in the military since I served thirty-six years in the Army. I would guess no matter what occupation or job one had they have run into the big shot. The great need is honest leadership. To work under a true leader is a very pleasant and rewarding experience.

LEADERSHIP IS GREATLY NEEDED IN A WORLD OF BIG SHOTS.

“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” Peter Drucker (1909-2005)

“Leadership is based on inspiration, not domination; on cooperation, not intimidation.” William Arthur Wood

“Leadership is communicating to people their worth and potential so clearly that they come to see it in themselves.” Stephen Covey

“Men make history, and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.” Harry S. Truman (1884-1972)

JOSEPH AN EXAMPLE OF A GREAT GOD-FEARING LEADER

“And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.” (Genesis 41:38-44 KJV)
