Course Description:
The purpose of this course it to outline basic concepts in the fields of general, organic, and biological chemistry as well as apply these concepts to solving problems in those areas. It is a four credit class, and is a required course for nursing students.
Course Evaluation:
Final Grades for this class will be determined as follows:
Three Exams 25% each
Final Exam 25%
Calculator Policy: ONLY single line, scientific calculators will be allowed in this class. Using another calculator on an exam will result in the loss of 10 points from the test grade.
Attendance Policy:
Attendance is required. This class covers a large amount of material. Missing classes will put you behind in a very fast-paced class and will lead to poor performance. Therefore, I will not provide any handouts or notes given out during the missed session. There will be no make-up exams. Failure to attend an exam will result in a grade of zero (0) for that exam, unless a VALID excuse is provided (hospital stay, accident report etc.) For a valid excuse to be considered, the student must contact me within 24 hours of the exam.
Grading System: I will strictly adhere to this grading scale. There will be no curves.
90.0 – 100 A
80.0 – 89.9 B
70.0 – 79.9 C
60.0 – 69.9 D
0 – 59.9 F

2nd Test: Friday, July 1st on Chapters 7-10, 13
3rd Test: Thursday July 14thon Chapters 13-18
Final Exam: Saturday, July 29th on Chapters 19-25
These dates are tentative, and are subject to change. All changes will be announced in advance in class and in writing. Because of this, missing an exam because of a changed date is not considered a valid excuse.
Emergency Evacuation Procedure:
A map of this floor of the building is on the wall by the elevator. Indicated on the map is a Designated Rescue Area where persons needing assistance exiting the building in an emergency, such as a fire, should go. During an emergency, service personnel will look in this area for people needing help. Students who will need assistance in an emergency should identify themselves to me on the first day of class.
