II.Coach Anderson shared information regarding the SAC sponsored Physical Education (PE) Conference, which they attended inJanuary. The conference labeled as “Share the Wealth” was for the southeast and northeast region of Florida. The new guidelines have stated that classes must get 150 minutes of recess and physical education per week. Teachers must cover any minutes the students don’t receive in PE. The coaches held a training for the staff where they modeled activities teachers could do in the classrooms and out on the fields when the teachers need to fill the gap. One game was the bean bag challenge. The school has already purchased two beanbag class sets per grade level. Coach Anderson thanked the SAC committee and looks forward to next year being just as informative as this year’s.

III. Vote on February minutes – Mrs. Traylor – Jocelyn Marabellmotioned. XioSpadafora seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

IV.Principal and Budget Update – Mrs. Edelstated that we have $4,748.29 in our budget.

On the TCE website, details are available about the science adoption on 15 March.

School recognition ballot – It is due to the district in May.

Pennies for Patients campaign: The students collected $3,400. This was three times the amount collected last year. Mrs. Smith, the guidance counselor, will kiss a pig since we made more than the $2,800target.

Tim Forson asked the principals to address the SAC committee on the topic of safety: What would make you or your child feel safe on the campus? A couple of suggestions were to give each teacher scan cards versus keys for locking their doors. Instead of having to fumble to lock the classroom door with keys, use the scan key to lock it. Also suggested, was the issue of student mobility on campus between houses. Recently we had to call the sheriff’s department to watch and intervene atour parent pick up and drop off location.

If an intruder came on site one suggestion from the county was to use green cards which would be placed under the doors, so that the police would know the area was clear. The emergency policy is being reviewed. Less is more. Practicing and scheduling drills is the way to have a smooth transition in the case of emergencies. Reaching out to other schools was suggested – but as said by the district – a report is submitted and reviewed, then passed out to the schools in the form of training.Parent pick up and drop off now has more adults visible, this will enable a faster reaction to help if a situation arises. A short discussion was held per table to gather information to improve the safety at TCE. Mrs. Edel shared a few items from the principal’s meeting:

More cameras may be installed.

Doors that lead outside will have to be key swiped to enter.

Classrooms doors are being reviewed to decide if a magnetic key to lock the door instead of a traditional keywould be safer in the case of an intruder.

VI. Discuss New Family Welcome Letter– Mrs. Traylortalked of the duties, roles and responsibilities of the School Improvement Plan. Mrs. Edel informed us that we are stepping back from putting together a family welcome letter. Some requests to revise the current paperwork included in the first day folder were submitted. In the packets that have been made/or to be made,it was suggested that having reviews written by students in their own handwriting as to what they like about the TCE could be added to the packet. A further review of the current packet will be done.

VI. Update on FSA Writes– Mrs. Traylorsaid the 5th grade teachersconducted a Mock FSA practice. 5thgrade worked on several essays to prepare for the state test. Teachers held individual writing conferences with students. A Professional Learning Community (PLC) inservice was held at Timberlin for 5th grade teachers throughout the county. The purpose was to become more effective writing teachers. Teachers were able to share with each other instead of reinventing the wheel.

The 3rd through 5th grade team leaders have met and a flier is being constructed to include information about the writing contest. Students may write prose, play or poetry.
