Supporting projects and activities which aim to reduce

health inequalitiesin South Gloucestershire

Guidance Notes – 2017/18

  1. This local grant scheme aims to support projects and activities to:
  • Make healthy choices easier
  • Improve the healthof disadvantaged people
  1. Applications for any sum between £100 and £1,000 will be considered.
  1. The grant can cover short term running costs such as hire of venue, crèche, tutor fees, transport and the purchasing of equipment.
  1. The grant cannot contribute towards the core running costs of much larger projects; it cannot pay wages.
  1. Application formswill only be accepted by email (unless your group has no computer access, if so, please post to the address above) andmust be received on or before5pm Friday 16thJune2017
  1. Successful applicants will be contacted byFriday 14thJuly2017 at the latest.
  1. You can apply for a grant if your organisation can meet allthe following criteria:
  • It is a voluntary organisation, community group, social enterprise or an individual working in partnership with a group of local residents; OR a youth club that can provide the evidence that your project was developed by a group of young people
  • It has a constitution, or other governing document
  • It has an equalities policy
  • It has safeguarding policies for vulnerable adults & children
  • It can provide a recent set of annual accounts
  • It can show how the project reflects the concerns and priorities of members of the group/community
  • It can show how the project will have an impact on the health of participants.
  1. Priority will be given to innovative projects working to meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • Promote the health and well being of individuals, or communities, who suffer from isolation, discrimination or disadvantage
  • Benefit Black and/or other minority ethnic residents,
  • Benefit Gypsy Travellerresidents
  • Benefit carers,disabled people,young people,older people,lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgenderpeople,people with mental health problems, people with learning disabilities
  • Benefit families withbabies ORchildren under 5;
  • Benefit residents in the ‘Priority Neighbourhoods’ ie. the geographical areas of Patchway, Filton, Kings Chase, Staple Hill, Cadbury Heath, Yate and Doddington or Ventura Farm estate in Willsbridge. (Projects in other areas will also be considered.)
  • There will be a focus on:

food and healthy eating

increasing levels of physical activity

providing social support& reducing isolation

encouraging intergenerational work

combating addiction eg smoking, drug or alcohol abuse

domestic abuse

emotionalresilience

improving sexual health

  1. Forms and supporting information (constitution, annual accounts, policies etc)must be received at the following email (or the postal address above) by 5pm Friday 16th June 2017.
  1. If you do not have any of the documents or supporting information required please contact South Gloucestershire Council,for assistance please contact the number at the foot of these notes.
  1. All successful applicants must complete a brief evaluation form giving details of how the money was used, and the impact the project had on the health and well being of participants. This is expected within 9 months of the grant being awarded.
  1. Projects awarded grants should be started before the end of March 2018 and completed by the end of July 2018. Any future funding will not be considered unless a fully completed evaluation form has been completed.
  1. Organisations will not be considered for further funding unless they have returned a completed evaluation form for their previous year’s funding.

A FREE workshop to support groups in evaluating projects will be offered inNovember and all applicants will be encouraged to take up this opportunity. You will be sent details nearer the time

  1. If your organisation has been awarded a health inequalities small grant before, you can only apply for the same project for one more year.

After two years funding for one project you may only apply for further

small grants to fund new projects or activities.
