Additional Info Regarding Pack 107 Family Campout @ Wilderness Park
In addition to the checklist for the campout here is some info that you should be aware of while camping.
Do not spend a lot of money on equipment if you are just getting into camping and not sure if it is something your family will continue. Ask to borrow or share equipment. If you need to buy new equipment try Target, Wal-Mart, or Big Lots. What you should not skimp on is your sleeping bag. Check the temperature rating to make sure it is appropriate. Extra layers of clothes and blankets can help. Be prepared!
Each and every person should have their own flashlight. For kids, a headlamp style or hand held with safety strap is recommended.Label these and all other equipment!!
The seating around the camp fire ring is cement. To avoid a very cold seat - Please bring some kind of pad to sit on for the programs on Friday and Saturday nights. Some suggestions: Foam pads, stadium chair cushions, self inflating sleeping pads, closed cell foam, cushions from outdoor furniture, folded beach towel, etc.
It is VERY important that you change cloths before going to sleep in your tent. Here are some reasons why: Your clothes will be damp from perspiration and will therefore not keep you as warm as you think. Your cloths will be dirty and will therefore get dirt inside your sleeping bag. Your cloths will have food or the smell of food on them and can attract insects and animals.
Never bring anything flammable into your tent including stoves, heaters, candles, matches, lighters, fuels, and lanterns (unless battery operated), etc.
Do not put any food or scented items (perfume, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, etc.) in your tent. Again, the scents will attract insects and animals.
Sleeping arrangements: No males and females in the same tent unless in the same family. You must give written permission if you are unable to stay overnight with your son, and you intend your son to sleep in another family’s tent. This can only be accommodated in a family tent with two adults tenting with their children. Examples:
With written permission -
A non-related boy could join a married couple and their child(ren).
A non-related boy could join two dads (or two moms) and their two boys.
Please let your Den Leader know if you need us to make these arrangements.
Please do not bring any alcoholic beverages. It is strictly prohibited by Boy Scout regulations.
Thank you in advance for making this a memorable Family Campout!
