CONCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT (10 points)

1. Problem solving. I visualized the Ancient Greek myths I read and listened to in class, using the art elements to convey ideas and feelings. I considered the elements of making a Picture as shown in Molly Bang’s slides. I used a computer program such as PageMaker, or Quark Express to write a shortened version of the tale to correspond with my illustrations which reflect the writer’s mood and events of the myth and the political background, knowledge of the times in which it was written. I compiled my pages in a book format as instructed to make a modified accordion book.

TECHNICAL SKILLS (10 points)

2. Tool manipulation. Using color paper and shapes cut with scissors or torn by hand, I created images of each event in the story.

3. Gluing technique. My shapes were neatly applied to the background support.

4. Craftsmanship. The modified accordion backing is folded evenly and taped neatly on the backside. The cover and end pages are glued and stacked neatly.

VISUAL ORGANIZATION (10 points)

5. Use of space. My shapes are balanced on the page or double page and blank areas are balanced. My title is clearly readable and balanced on the page with my name as illustrator.

6. Use of color. My words are readable against the background color that is high contrast and my illustrations compliment the colors of the lettering.

7. My book reflects the writer’s mood and the historical and political background of the story. It is appealing in an emotional way.

8. Preparations and Care of Materials. I removed all old work from my shelf. I cleaned and returned all materials, tools, etc. daily according to classroom procedures. I did not leave items on the table, sink, counter or floor. I performed my daily job as listed on the weekly job chart.
