Individual Learning Contract / Curriculum
The PPC Individual Learning Contract is based on the MCH Leadership Competencies.
Maternal Child Health (MCH) Leadership Competency No. 1: MCH Knowledge Base
1. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- View MCH 101 on line and other preparatory training links
- Participate in PPC/MCHB Welcome lecture
- Participate in life course didactic activities consolidating mastery by playing the LCT Game (See 7.b.)
- Attend or participate in a national or regional conference such as the UAPPC Annual Meeting, the AUCD Disability Conference, Making Lifelong Connections Meeting (MLC), or the Mountain West Cystic Fibrosis Conference(MWCFC) (Dependent on funding and availability)
- Submit an abstract to the Making Lifelong Connections (MLC) Meeting and attend if accepted
- View MCHB six core outcomes:
- Complete MCH Leadership Skill Assessment (pre/post)
MCH Leadership Competency No 2: Self-reflection
2. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Keep a Self-Reflection Journal to record guided and self-reflections on lectures, presentation, site visits
- Develop a snapshot of their life course and reflect upon it
- Complete a pre and post MCH Leadership Skill Assessment
- Develop a PPC Testimony regarding PPC experience
MCH Leadership Competency No 3: Ethics and Professionalism
3. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Participate in the UA MCHLC Leadership Training program
- Participate in Leadership, Research Ethics, and Medical Ethics lectures
- Complete CITI Training.
- Interact ethically and professionally with patients, families, and other healthcare providers
- Demonstrate professional demeanor and behaviors at clinic, meetings, and presentations
Discuss professional behaviors with faculty members
MCH Leadership Competency No 4: Critical Thinking
4. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Design/disseminate needs assessment to a target population; propose educational project to impact identified need
- Summarize needs assessment design/results, initiate the educational project, and present it to the PPC faculty for an initial evaluation
- Complete development of the educational project and formally present to the PPC faculty and target population
- Participate in current clinical or community health research
- Integrate didactic clinical lectures on pulmonary disease into best practice patient care
MCH Leadership Competency No 5: Communications
5. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Interact with patients; deliver a mock case study to PPC faculty including reflection of patient’s LCT. (See 1.c.)
- Demonstrate interviewing skills by recording at least one mock patient interview
- Present primary educational project (See 4.c.)
- Craft an MCH story designed to motivate policymakers 1) Share a family’s story, using Life Course Theory.
- Communicate effectively with families at clinic to develop an understanding of obstacles
- Participate in clinics, presentations, and meetings
MCH Leadership Competency No 6: Negotiation and Conflict Resolution
6. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Participate in negotiation and conflict resolution trainings at the UA MCHLC Leadership Training program
Self-reflection Journal and discussion
- Interact with families at clinic demonstrating negotiation and conflict resolution strategies and skills
MCH Leadership Competency No 7: Cultural Competency
7. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Complete PPC Cultural Competency Modules.
- Promote LCT to community-based MCH practitioners, residents, and public health students
- Attend cultural competency webinars/conferences
- Participate in two community-based system visits where there are culturally diverse and underserved populations.
- Participate in Community Cultural Awareness activities and community resource agencies, which may include: Border Health Fair, Sonora Border Tour, or a similar activity
MCH Leadership Competency 8: Family-centered Care
8. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Participate in 100 hours of interprofessional, family centered care clinics such as: cystic fibrosis and asthma
- Participate in a family-centered case study
- Participate in lectures focusing on family-centered care in an interprofessionalclinical setting
- Work with family faculty member; join CysticLife
- Increase community resource knowledge by visiting two community resource agencies such as Tu Nudito and Ronald McDonald House (See 7.f)
MCH Leadership Competency 9: Developing Others Through Teaching and Mentoring
9. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Develop and deliver educational project that impacts an identified need using an effective teaching presentation method such as a PowerPoint presentation (See 4 a., b., c.)
- Present to other organizations on LCT, educational projects, and the PPC using an effective teaching presentation method such as a PowerPoint presentation (See 1.a., 4.c., 5.c.)
- Attend the MCH Leadership training, which will include presentations and activities on learning styles
MCH Leadership Competency 10: Interprofessional Team Building
10. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Participate in interprofessional, family-centered care clinic debriefing during the semester
- Participate in interprofessional outpatient cystic fibrosis clinics (See 8.a.)
- Present one interprofessional family-centered case study (See 4.c.)
MCH Leadership Competency 11: Working with Communities and Systems
11. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Help facilitate and attend one annual school healthcare training event
- Deliver a need assessment and present educational project to an underserved, culturally diverse community-based healthcare system site (See 4.a., b., and c.)
MCH Leadership Competency 12: Policy and Advocacy
12. Activities: The trainee will… / Evaluation- Participate in Advocacy lectures and activities such as the creation of white papers or policy memo with the UAMCHLC faculty and trainees
- Attend the AUCD conference and advocate for MCHB programs at federal offices (when available)
- Craft an MCH stories (snapshots) designed to motivate policymakers 1) Share a family’s story including LCT
