Comments/Explanations

Apprentice Kodie Grace advised Stewards that he was unavailable to attend today’s meeting.

Following the running of Race 1 Michael Guthrie was examined by the on-course medical officers and subsequently stood down for the remainder of the meeting. Michael Guthrie was advised that he must submit a medical certificate prior to riding trackwork, trials or races.

Permission was granted for Apprentice J Bayliss to replace M Guthrie on Regal Quality in Race 2, Mr Anpranks in Race 3 and General Gee Gee in Race 4 due to the unavailability of another suitable senior rider.

Permission was granted for Apprentice B Muhcu to replace M Guthrie on Sun Disk in Race 5 due to the unavailability of another suitable senior rider.

RACE 1 – NEWSTEAD HOTEL 2YO HANDICAP–1200 METRES

Prince Of Rivers jumped awkwardly and lost ground (1L).

Geegees Brightstar was slow into stride (1L).

Don’t We Love It shifted in at the start bumping with Geegees Baritone which lost ground.

Near the 800 metres Debauche shifted in slightly and brushed Geegees Brightstar resulting in Debauche becoming unbalanced.

Near the 250 metres Debauche was restrained after shifting out towards the heels of Don’t We Love It.

David Pires rider of Debauche which performed below expectations explained that the filly failed to respond to his riding from the 400 metres. He further added that in his opinion the filly may require a brief let up.

Subsequent to the race Michael Guthrie rider of fourth placegetter Don’t We Love It became indisposed and unable to weigh in. As Stewards were satisfied that Mr Guthrie had weighed out correctly and returned with all the gear with which he weighed out, correct weight was declared.

RACE 2 – BETFAIR 2YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE DIV 1 – 1100 METRES

Regal Quality which had not raced for over 2 years underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to race.

The start of this race was delayed 5 minutes to allow jockeys to participate in a meeting with the Australian Jockey Association representatives.

Following a report from the starter that Our Lucky Girl proved difficult to load and further delayed the start, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the filly’s barrier manners.

Family Ty, Momentofsurrender and Little Sheeka were all slightly slow to begin.

Mel The Parrot jumped out at the start carrying Lavella and Flash Bee wider on the track.

Approaching the 600 metres Flash Bee was restrained off the heels of Lavella.

Jason Lyon rider of Our Lucky Girl accidentally dropped his whip near the 150 metres.

David Pires rider of Kenbiki which performed below expectations explained that the filly failed to respond to his riding from the 400 metres.

RACE 3 – ACCESS HARDWARE 2YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE DIV 2- 1100 METRES

The start of this race was re-scheduled to commence at 12.52 pm due to a further meeting between jockeys and the AJA representatives.

Marresi jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin (1L).

So Much Fun was hampered shortly after the start when Extravagant Eagle shifted ground outwards.

Marresi layed in when under pressure in the home straight.

Daniel Ganderton rider of Extravagant Eagle reported that his saddle slipped sideways shortly after the start placing him at a disadvantage from that point.

David Pires rider of Speed Buzz which performed below expectations could offer no tangible explanation for today’s performance other that the filly failed to respond to his riding and may not have handled the track conditions today. He further added that in his opinion the filly may require a brief let up.

RACE 4 – LAUNCESTON MITSUBISHI MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE - 1600 METRES

Commanderbrae Halo was slow to begin (1L).

Shortly after the start Weekend Winner was tightened for room between My Nett and Gocarma which shifted out slightly.

Jason Lyon rider of Zagan which was uncompetitive for the majority of the race explained that during the race the gelding made a respiratory noise which may have had a bearing on its performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Sherry Barr rider of Zabibo was harmlessly dislodged on pulling up.

Chantal Willis rider of Gotta Have Vibe which performed below expectations explained that in her view the mare made a respiratory noise during the race which may have contributed to the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RACE 5 – ACCESS HARDWARE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP - 2100 METRES

Shortly after the start Landstar was restrained over the heels of Spotluck (C Willis) which shifted in when not clear. Chantal Willis was severely reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding and notified that she must ensure she is sufficiently clear of other runners in similar circumstances.

In the early stages Make Us Richo over-raced.

For the majority of the race Sun Disk displayed a tendency to lay in.

Near the 500 metres Settler’s Joy was tightened when struggling to hold its position between Make Us Richo which shifted out marginally and Spotluck which shifted in slightly.

Ismail Toker rider of Musique Player which performed below expectations could offer no tangible explanation for today’s performance but was of the opinion that the gelding may be at the end of its preparation.

RACE 6 – SOUTHERN CROSS CLASS 1 HANDICAP- 1400 METRES

All Cheer which was laying against the barrier prior to the start was slow into stride (1L).

She’s Drahmatic jumped away awkwardly and struck the barriers.

Grey Hype jumped awkwardly and made contact with Triple Bee.

Near the 1200 metres Getaway Gold when being restrained to obtain a trail behind Alive (S Barr) then had to be checked when the filly shifted out slightly. Sherry Barr was advised to exercise more care when placed in similar circumstances.

Rounding the home turn She’s Drahmatic layed in under pressure.

Lake Fergus layed in approaching the 100 metres and bumped with Gee Gees Prairie.

When asked for an explanation on the improved performance of Getaway Gold, trainer Angela Brakey stated that the gelding failed to settle at its most recent starts and as a result she removed blinkers today, which in her opinion was a contributing factor to the improved performance.

RACE 7 – THE EXAMINER BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Freddie Two Shoes was slow to begin (2L).

Dangerous Geegee jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 800 metres It’s Flash Al got its head up when being restrained to obtain a trail behind Gee Gees Style (C Willis) which shifted in when not quite clear. Chantal Willis was notified to exercise care when in similar circumstances.

At the entrance to the home straight Kim Moore rider of Kirkson accidentally dropped her whip.

RACE 8 – PFD FOOD SERVICES OPEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

On arrival at the barrier on the request of Apprentice Georgie Catania, Mr Fashion underwent a veterinary examination prior to the start and was passed fit to take its place in the field.

On jumping Turbo Qui shifted in bumping with Snippetee Bee.

Turbo Qui layed in under pressure from the 400 metres.

A post-race veterinary examination of Mr Fashion revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 9 – TOLL TASMANIA BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Prom King which has not raced for over 3 years underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to race.

On arrival at the barriers Pengalas Gee Gee was re-saddled.

Am I There Yet (1L) and Moonless (2L) were both slow to begin.

Lander Dollar jumped away awkwardly.

Jake Bayliss rider of Royal Rapture which performed below expectations explained that in his view the gelding failed to handle the track conditions.

GENERAL

Trainer D Brunton pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 175(q) misconduct in that following the running of Race 2 in the vicinity of the scales area he used inappropriate language towards Australian Jockey Association representative Kevin Ring. Mr Brunton was subsequently fined $400 after taking into account his guilty plea.

Race 7 –Launceston Mitsubishi Think Pink Cup

Bill Ryan trainer of Liluka Belle which performed below expectations reported that blood tests taken from the mare revealed no abnormalities.

Tasmanian Racing Club Meeting 13 July 2014

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for runners trained by Ken and Tanya Hanson being administered medication on race day. Evidence was taken from Stipendiary Stewards Dominic Tyson and Sara Richards and trainers Ken and Tanya Hanson. As Stewards wish to interview Stablehand Brent Hanson the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
