Contest Scope

Contest Date: January 11, 2018 (Rain date: January 12/15, 2018)

Contest Location: York County School of Technology,2179 South Queen St., York PA, 17402

Purpose: To evaluate each contestant’s preparation for employment and to recognize outstanding students for excellence and professionalism in the field of welding by means of following the blueprints given.

Clothing Requirement:Standard Skills USA attire for the Fabrication team.

Supplied by sending School:

1) Completed projects

2) 3 ring binder outlining required details in relation to fabrication projects.

Scope of the Contest:

Students will demonstrate the utilization of several different welding processes to complete project within a given time frame. Students will go through a question and answer session about their project with the judges evaluating it. Blueprint release date will be Jan 2, 2018.

Knowledge Performance:

The contest will include a multiple choice written knowledge exam for welding and blueprint reading.

Skill Performance:

This is not only a project based off of welding ability and skill, but also time management and background knowledge associated with the content area.

Welding Equipment/Consumables List for Projects:

Based on sending school district equipment. All blueprints will be completed with various types of base material with the processes of GTAW, SMAW,PAC and OFC.

Each student on the team competing will need and be working with the following…

1 piece 16g stainless steel 8”x18” and appropriate filler material for GTAW – Blueprint #1

1 piece 3/8” carbon steel 8”x6” and E7018/E6010 filler material for SMAW – Blueprint #2

1 piece 1/2" carbon steel 9”x6” for OFC project – Blueprint #3

Grinding/wire wheel equipment to dress faces of projects and clean welds for inspection.

Transportation:

To be provided by sending school districts.
