OUR HOLIDAY PROGRAM – 2016

Between Monday 4th January and Friday 22nd January

Holidays are a great time to have a break. They’re also a great time to learn and practise new skills. We are so excited to launch our holiday program, drawn from the knowledge and experience of our best therapists. We hope you find something for your child. Or feel free to pass it on to a friend.

The benefits of intensives are that your child gets correct, repetitive practise at doing things “right” or “better” rather than repeating old patterns that either don’t work or only partly work. Our Intensives are:

  • Handwriting intensive - so your child can master and be confident with handwriting.
  • Peer Play date intensive – so your child can have successful play dates with peers and make and keep friends
  • Prep readiness intensive – so your child can start Prep with confidence
  • Gym Joint missions – so your child can learn to cooperate and collaborate with others

So we can get the best for your child, it is important that we get to know you and your child before doing any intensive session in a group. This is so we can match the right children together and that we have a relationship of trust to help deal with and repair any problems in relationships with another child. Individual intensives are fine if we don’t know you yet, because individual work is a great way to get to know you. Each of these intensive groups can be modified for individual work.

How to Book:

  • Ring 3392 6133 and ask to speak to Allison Pym (our Practice Manager) or see her when at the Yeerongpilly clinic
  • Send an email to and she will contact you for intake.

Handwriting Intensive - individual or dyads (groups of 2)

Worried your child is not ready to write? Concerned that your child is already not keeping up with handwriting demands? Our therapists understand the foundations for writing and know how to make writing fun for your child. This intensive block will help overcome the hump and get your child set for writing.

For: Kids who struggle with handwriting and are not progressing with the “normal” teaching methods. Our intensives build foundational skills as well as give the necessary correct repetitive practice to overcome the blocks and start your child engaging with the writing process. Dyads and individual intensives are targeted at all ages and levels of ability/ interest from kindy/ prep through to teenagers. Children are matched to similar peers where possible or seen individually if their behaviour needs individual attention.

Peer play date

Does your kid have difficulty playing with his peers or siblings? Are you worried about her ability to make or keep friends? Does he have trouble taking turns and sharing? Does she find it hard to be flexible in play and have to always have things their own way? Does he tend to repeat the same ideas in play and struggle coming up with new ideas? Does she have trouble using their imagination? Does she lack confidence in approaching others to play?

This small group of two or three children will teach you how to set up and run a successful playdate so you can help build your child’s social skills at home. Targeted for kids with high functioning autism and social skill delays, Cameron facilitates all of the above skills based on the DIR/Floortime model and his extensive experience in working with social skills in children.

For: Any child between 5 and 8 years who struggles to play well with peers and/ or siblings. This unique opportunity gives a playful approach to developing social skills rather than a cognitive teaching approach. And you learn how to facilitate this at home in play dates with peers or siblings.

Prep Readiness Intensive

Worried about your child’s readiness to attend 5 days/week prep? You’re not alone. There are many core skills that kids need to master to be successful at school and we’ve put together some small groups to help you get them ready. These small groups of children with similar issues will prepare them for social/emotional and learning skills required for Prep.

These groups will be 2-3 times a week over the weeks just before school start date in 2016. These children will be grouped based on their abilities and special needs.

For: Children moving from kindy to prep who cannot sit still, follow directions, organise their belongings, manage their lunchboxes/ food, listen, pay attention, keep their hands to themselves, engage in fine motor/ writing tasks and other such school skills. We provide targeted support and education to help these kids get ready.

Gym Joint missions (for problem solving, cooperation and negotiation)

Does your kid struggle to co-operate with others? He must always be the boss or he won’t play. She won’t share and take turns. He is a follower and seems to lack any ideas of his own? She lacks confidence to share her ideas.

This small group (dyads, or up to 3 kids of matched ages) helps kids together to come up with ideas for a set mission, plan and organise in collaboration and achieve as a team. It naturally builds social skills in the context of a shared goal.

For: Any child between 5 and 12 years who struggles to work collaboratively with others. This unique opportunity gives your child a safe environment in which to practice social collaboration and problem-solving skills.
