SNOW SCULPTURE COMPETITION

NMU will be bringing WinterFest sprit to campus by allowing students to put their creativity to the test as they compete to build the ultimate snow sculpture. NMU students, faculty, and staff are allowed to participate in the event (maximum of six people per team). Sculptures should represent NMU and WinterFest, and can be anything from snowmen to forts or even ice sculptures, as long as they don’t portray obscene images that would violate the NMU rules. Contestants have a week to build their sculpture. On Friday, February 24, the Special Events Committee will be judging them to choose a snow sculpture winner. This is a great way to enjoy the snow that NMU is known for while showing school spirit.

1. Each team can have a maximum of 6 participants. Participants must be NMU students, faculty or staff.

2. A completed entry form must be submitted to the Center for Student Enrichment by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED!

3. At least one representative must attend the rules meeting on Wednesday, February 15 at 8 p.m. in the Back Room of the University Center.

3. The entry form will state what you are building, where you are building it (cannot be on the sidewalks), and when you would like it to be judged on Friday, February 24 (between 10AM and 2PM). The judging times will be first come first serve. You will receive an email with a confirmed time after handing your entry form in.

4. All members must be present at their statue at the time of judging.

5. There is only one category of competition. Teams can consist of males, females or a combination of both.

6. Teams can use anything to create their sculpture. The Special Events Committee will not be providing anything. The sculptures can be any height, width, or length as long as there is no vandalism of property. Sculptures most also not be on any sidewalks or make the sidewalks icy. The Special Events Committee has the right to disqualify any sculpture that portrays obscene images that would violate NMU rules

7. People cannot be a part of the sculpture but props and any other material can be used to add to the sculpture. The sculpture should be built mainly out of snow. Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification.

8. Building can begin on Sunday, February 19. Building and construction can occur anytime during the week of WinterFest.

9. Sculptures will be judged on the following criteria: creativity, effort, correlation with WinterFest theme, and detail/appearance. All judges’ decisions are final.
