The Legion of Mary

GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING THE ANNUAL PRAESIDIUM REPORT

PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW CAREFULLY

“The Curia shall exercise authority over its Praesidia, subject to the Constitution of the Legion.” (pg. 162) Its primary duty is to ensure the development of the member and the Praesidium. Reason would require that adequate information be supplied to the Curia to aid in this responsibility. While the preparation of the Praesidium Annual Report is primarily the responsibility of the President, all the officers should contribute to its content. It should be emphasized that a report should not be a journalistic composition. All that should be included are the facts, good and bad. Needless details should be left out and may come up on the questioning after the report is given.

If the Spiritual Director is not available to sign the report, don’t hold up the report but be sure he gets a copy.

1. Follow the sample form including all items as listed.

2. Send a copy of the report to the Curia President in advance of the meeting at which it will be submitted.

3. Provide copies as follows for: your Spiritual Director, your Pastor,

your Secretary for your Praesidium file, Council President, and the Curia Correspondent.

4. Report ONLY THOSE WORKS WHICH HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED BY THE PRAESIDIUM.

“The work must represent some definite active duty assigned by the Praesidium, not something dictated by the pleasure of the individual Legionary. Prayers or other spiritual exercises, however considerable, DO NOT satisfy this obligation, or even supply in part the place of active work.” (pg. 193) Active work does not include secretarial work or telephoning, attending meetings etc., but rather active work is personal contacts with other souls with the purpose of bringing something special to them about Jesus and Mary – to bring them closer to God. Our Lord does not order that every creature be converted, but only that approach be made to every one. So the report should include only those works done with another member in which you go out to other souls in a special way.

5. Divide the report so each officer will present a part of it to the Curia.

6. Treasurer’s Report: Secret Bag funds must be reported with any other donations the Praesidium may have received. Not more than $5.00 should be kept in the Praesidium treasury unless a special purchase is to be made. The Secret Bag is to be counted after the meeting with another member. Never count the money during the meeting. Funds are kept at the home of the Treasurer. The book is to be audited by two (2) other members annually, usually at the time of the Annual Report.

7. Be sure to show the number of the Annual Report, the date Praesidium was founded, period covered, and the time and day of the Praesidium meeting, and date submitted.

8. Vice Presidents ought to use the previous year’s report for their membership report so as to show a growth comparison between the two years. Make this comparison for auxiliary membership also.

9. Under “ASSIGNED WORKS” list only what was done by the members weekly as it appeared on the President’s Work Sheet.

10. Under "MOST INTERESTING CASE” enter a brief synopsis of the conversions, returns, marriages validated or heroic work done on assignments.
