A.CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

1. Extra notes are kept in the binder at the front of the class. If you have missed a class or classes, validate your absence with the office and see Mrs. Miller as soon as possible (most likely at lunch).

2. Be prepared, come to class with:- pencil/pen, notebook, text,

paper, calculator, ruler, etc.

- homework done.

3.Get ready to start immediately- go directly to your seat

- copy down the Daily Record

4.Stay in your own seat and ask permission if you need to leave your desk.

5.Be courteous: YOU ARE NOT TALKING WHEN:

- the teacher is talking

- another student is speaking to the teacher or class

6.Raise your hand if you have a question, and wait until you are called

on to reply.

7.RECIPE FOR SUCCESS:

- ATTEND: everyday, on time, and STAY the whole period.

-PARTICIPATE: share your good ideas and practice your answers.

-ORGANIZE: Keep notebook neat and up to date.

-ATTEMPT: Try your best and complete all assigned work.

-ASK when you have questions or think you need extra help.

-NOT on during lesson or at lab benches

-NO cell phone use in class. Keep it out of sight!

-If I catch you with the item at an inappropriate time, it will be documented and you may be asked to write a letter to your parent informing them of what happened and what you intend to do so it doesn’t happen again. If it persists, you will see your VP for a detention(s).

C.SCIENCE EVALUATION.

FORMATIVE: designed to give multiple opportunities for students to make improvements to their work (i.e., teacher-student conferences, peer conferencing, homework, exemplars, Q&A sessions, review, quizzes)

SUMMATIVE: designed to make judgments on final achievements of performance (i.e., lab reports, quizzes, assignments, unit tests, projects)

The semester is broken down into two summative parts:

Things to Remember

1.If a student misses a test due to illness or any other legitimate reason, he/she may have to write the test upon returning the NEXT school day. (BE PREPARED!) or at the teacher's convenience. If a student misses a test or quiz for an invalid reason,a mark of zero will be assigned. It is the student’s responsibility to see the teacher upon their return.

2.ALL MATERIAL IS DUE AT THE START OF CLASS. Any late labs or assignments will have 5% of the mark deducted per day, to a maximum of 20%. A mark of zero will be given once taken up. Invalid absences on the day of a lab or assignment will result in a mark of ZERO. Please bring a note validating any absence to the office.

3. If you will be away because of aschool-sponsored activity and will miss science the day an assignment is due, then the assignment must be handed inbeforeyou leave. If the item is not handed in before you leave, the same rules, as above, will apply.

4. If you will be away because of a school-sponsored activity on the day of an announced test or quiz, you must make arrangements before you leave to write the test or quiz. A mark of ZERO will be assigned if this procedure is not carried out.

5. It is YOUR responsibility to get caught up when you are absent. Check with your SCIENCE BUDDY (get one!) to see what you missed and use the handouts binder to get necessary material. If you are having difficulties, please talk to the teacher ASAP…there is little that can be done after the fact!

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is theft. Plagiarism is copying. Plagiarism is the failure to acknowledge borrowed material from other people (students or professionals). If you are caught plagiarizing, YOU WILL RECEIVE ZERO ON THE ITEM IN QUESTION. Your parents and VP will be notified. In particular, be very careful when working on assignments or making observations and responding to lab questions, that what you are writing is YOUR OWN WORK! If you lend your work for someone else to copy, that is also plagiarism resulting in a ZERO FOR BOTH PEOPLE!
