Welcome and Introductions
Presentation by Lona Mody / Gail started the meeting at 11:00am and welcomed everyone; followed by self-introductions.
PowerPoint hand-outs were provided for all and the presentation was done by Lona Mody. The title of the presentation: TIP (Targeted Infection Prevention) Program. Primary Aims 1. To determine the efficacy of TIP multi-component intervention in reducing infections in 12 Nursing Homes in SE Michigan. / N/A
Gail and the membership invited Dr. Mody to join the collaborative. Dr. Mody agreed
Old Business / Update from Joe: Joe introduced the MDCH SHARP unit webpage hai; he followed the link to MRSA/CDI Prevention initiative. He showed the educational materials, FAQ’s and also informed about the availability of meeting minutes from the past collaborative meetings. He requested for any comments/ ideas for the improvement of the web page and also requested to share any appropriate links to be posted for further details about MRSA/CDI. He informed that either Allison Gibson or he work to update this web-page and all inquiries could be sent to them. He also asked for approval from all the collaborative members to have the list of advisory group members posted on this web-page.
Gail added on by saying that the kick-off conference materials/ presentations and future webinars will also be posted here for educational reasons and could be accessed by the entire facilities even though they are not a part of the MRSA/CDI initiative.
Update form Gail: Gail updated the group about the facilities that were selected as a part of the initiative along with the corresponding regions they belong to. A total of 25 facilities (13 acute care and 12 SNF’s) were selected. MDCH SHARP unit has received over 100 filled assessment tools.
Update from Prashanti: Data plan for MRSA/CDI initiative for acute care facilities and skilled nursing facilities was explained. ACF’s will be using NHSN to report data; the facilities who are currently enrolled in NHSN or do not share data with MDCH SHARP unit have been contacted and efforts are underway by Judy Weber to have them all on board. Data collection forms (event report tool and denominator tool) were developed for collecting data from SNF’s; they were shared.
Baseline data would be collected starting May 1st 2012 for a period of 6 months from all these facilities. / Follow-up meeting with SNF’s scheduled for April 26th to review the tools.
Lunch Round table Discussion/ New business
Next Meeting / Gail said preparations were underway for the April 20th Kick-off conferences; so far 72 participants from the facilities selected have sent in their registration forms. Approximately 120 participants are expected at the kick-off conference. List of participants registered so far was passed around for review.
Action plan template was also passed around for review. The facilities at the kick-off would be requested to sit together at a table based on the regions they belong to and work on this action plan. They would receive a copy of it and SHARP unit would keep another copy to follow up with these facilities in May and June (at a 1:1 meeting with Gail and Prashanti). Overall goal of the initiative is to create a public health model for MRSA/CDI.
Following this a discussion on what the next step would be occurred. Gail briefed the group on a pilot project happening at Livingston County. They are planning on a state-wide campaign for “clean hands”. Dr. Gaumer mentioned an example from Costa Rica. Dr. Mody said that nursing homes get motivated and be involved once comparative data is shown. Gail discussed the involvement of Regional Epidemiologists and importance of data dissemination and hygiene practices.
Jodie asked for the kick-off conference agenda; Gail shared the speaker’s information and said she was looking forward for this conference and each participant would receive a leather binder and HAI Prevention guidelines brochure too.
Gail shared the certificate distribution plan in collaboration with MSIPC. In total 75 certificates will be distributed over the two year initiative period; 25 will be given at the kick-off conference for each facility and these are redeemable for upcoming MSIPC conferences (one of the fundamentals or 2 of the spring/ fall held by MSIPC). The certificate distribution will be tracked by MDCH SHARP unit; a excel tool was developed by Prashanti for the same.
Suggestion on sharing the data available from baseline collection during spring MSIPC conference was made.
Next meeting will be scheduled for July after Gail and Prashanti have completed all the site visits. The group had a consensus on this. / Gail will follow up with meeting wizard close to June to schedule July meeting
