“Robinson Rising”, “Don’t Talk About It, Be About It”, and “Knight for Life” aren’t just catchy tag lines on T-shirts or bumper stickers. They are a way of life for those of us that support the programs at Robinson High School, in particular the marching band program, the “Marching Knights”.
I’m writing to let you know about an opportunity the Knights Band has this fall to perform in our Nation’s capital to honor Veteran’s from WWII. The Marching Knights will be performing at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. this November in celebration of Veteran’s Day. This performance will be in memory of those that lost their lives and those that survived WWII. This is truly an honor and a first for the MarchingKnights.
As you can imagine there are costs associated with taking a band of 150+ to an event like this. it will cost approximately $650.00 per student to cover travel, lodging and food for a group of this size for 5 days. While in D.C. they will also get to visit Arlington National Cemetery, all war memorials. They will be present at the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier along with visits to the U.S. Capital and the National Archives. This could be the only opportunity some of our students will have to experience our Nation’s capital, while also having the honor of performing on Veteran’s Day.
Each student has been charged with raising the necessary funds on their own if they want to attend. We as parents, alumni and supporters of the band program, want them all to go – sort of our own “no child left behind” program. That is why I’m writing you. We are asking local businesses, community groups, alumni and the public to help get the Knights Band to Washington D.C.
