Always On UPS Systems

1.INTRODUCTION

The Remote LCD Panel (RLP) provides metering functions of UPS status, in a remote location. This device allows the user to monitor 1 – 99 UPS systems from one panel.

The Remote LCD Panel mimics the LCD display on the front of the UPS system.

  1. DB-9 connections provided as standard.
  1. Recommended maximum 1000m of shielded cable.

Installation Instructions

1. / Shutdown UPS as per operation instructions.
2. / Connect UPS and Remote Panel via a RS-485 (DB-9 connection or optional terminal strip) user supplied cable. See figures 2.1 and figure 2.2.
3. / Start up UPS as per operation instructions.
4. / Plug in the AC adapter (provided) and connect to power outlet on the Remote Panel. See figure 2.2.
5. / Select the UPS to be monitored by selecting the ID on Remote Panel by pressing the  or  buttons.

The ID of the UPS system was selected on initial start-up of the UPS systems. The factory default is 01 ID, unless specified otherwise at time of order. Consult UPS operator’s manual or contact factory if multiple UPS’s are to be monitored at one location via one remote panel.

  1. All options for the parameter set menu are factory set. Only factory trained and

certified technicians are able to enter this menu.

17. Press  to select exit press  to return to the initial start-up screen.

4.CABLE FOR LINKING MULTIPLE NX UPS SYSTEMS

A Remote LCD Panel can be used to view parameters from multiple UPS systems by selecting the individual IP address. These addresses are numbers as explained in the manual and are set at the factory. The communication is full duplex RS-485 and can be “daisy-chained” to include other units.

To link the other units, a cable must be purchased or built for your application’s required strength. As mentioned earlier in the manual, 1000m is the maximum overall distance.

The cable requirements and pin-outs for purchasing or constructing a cable is shown below in the communications wiring diagram. Also shown in the diagram is connecting multiple UPS systems together with the RS-485 system. The DB-9 connector shown in the installation section of the manual is labeled CNR10 and has both a male and a female DB-9 connector. Both of these connectors are paralleled.

Use two sets of twisted pair cables

(up to 1000 meters of #18-20AWG shielded cable).
