INTRODUCTION
Hemat Gryffe is affiliated to Scottish Women’s Aid and is one of 38 Women’s Aid Groups who run refuges for women, children and young people who are victims of domestic abuse.
Hemat Gryffe is a multi-cultural organisation and enjoys a multi-cultural working environment. The organisation provides safe temporary refuge accommodation primarily to women, children and young people from the Asian, black and minority ethnic community experiencing domestic abuse. The organisation operates an open door policy and does not turn any woman away.
The organisation provides outreach services to women living within the wider community at risk of domestic abuse from their husband, partner or extended family. We also provide services to women and girls at risk of forced marriage and to those at risk of honour based violence. The service is also available to women living within difficult domestic situations as well as to women who have previously lived within the refuge and no longer receiving follow on support.
GOVERNANCE
The organisation is governed by a Board of Directors and on a daily basis the work of the project is managed collectively amongst staff members. All workers are expected to work collectively and to share skills at all times.

Hours: / 35 hours per week (flexible working when required is an essential condition of this post).
Holidays: / 28 days annual leave (pro rata);

Purpose of the Post
The post holder will be bilingual and will require communicating in English Hindi, Punjabi or Urdu
The purpose of the post is to twofold:
(1)To provide direct one to one crisis support from our drop in centre at 24 Willowbank Street to women fleeing domestic abuse and/or to women living within difficult domestic circumstances.
(2)The purpose of the post is to contribute to the development of the service by adopting a multi-agency partnership approach and an ability to provide training and awareness raising.
Main Responsibilities
To support the work of the outreach service:-
To provide crisis support on a one to one basis primarily to Asian, black and minority ethnic women who have experienced gender based violence.
To support women fleeing domestic abuse from their husband, partner or extended family.
To advocate on behalf of women experiencing domestic abuse from their husband, partner or extended family.
To provide culturally sensitive support and information via telephone support, one to one support; email support, meetings at the drop in centre or at any other location as required.
To support women through trauma and abuse.
To provide bilingual support where necessary
To provide practical and emotional support in relation to the domestic abuse, housing issues, legal issues, accessing benefits, immigration issues
To accompany women to appointments and to Court.
To undertake administrative tasks as required:-
To record written referrals and outcomes and record information accurately.
To record telephone calls and the drop in centre daily attendance directory.
To complete support plans and review of support plans to ensure the identified needs of women are being met.
To carry our risk assessments to ensure the safety of women and their children.
To work in partnership and adopt an inter-agency approach with other relevant agencies Police Scotland, Solicitors, Social Work Agencies, Welfare Rights Officers, and GP’s, Health Visitors, Midwives, and Schools etc.
To attend and participate in multi agency meetings, local community forums; local women’s groups; violence against women partnership events;
To represent the organisation where possible at a local and national level
To provide training and awareness raising workshops
To inform women, children and young people and any other relevant/referring agency about the support services available.
Collective Duties
To adhere to the policies and practices of Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid at all times.
As a collective member a professional and competent approach is essential at all times
All collective members are responsible for ensuring that the provision ofa professional service in all areas of work.
All collective members must take their share of collective work outwith specific job remit when necessary.
All collective members are required to actively participate in collective management meetings, support sessions as necessary and attend any other relevant meetings.
All collective members must observe Hemat Gryffe’s confidentiality policy, dignity at work, child protection and adult support & protection at all times.
To work within Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid policies and procedures in relation to direct service provision and collective responsibility.
To work within the SSSC Code of Practice and National Care Standards for Housing Support Services.

Requirements / Essential / DesirableKnowledge and Experience:-
- An understanding of domestic abuse and the effects of abuse on women and children.
- A knowledge and understanding of the specific issues and culturally sensitive support needs of women, children and young people from the Asian, black and minority ethnic community who are experiencing domestic abuse
- Experience of providing individual support to vulnerable women, children & young people
- Experience of advocating on behalf of women;
- Experience of organisational and administrational skills
- Experience of interagency work when providing support to vulnerable women, children and young people
- To work to SSSC Codes of Practice and National Care Standards for Housing Support Services.
- Ability to adopt a multi-agency approach when working with vulnerable women with children
- Ability to represent the project at local and national level
- To contribute to the development of the organisation
- Ability to deliver presentations & training & awareness raising
