NISL Meeting Notes

January 17, 2018

  • Meeting started at 10:00 am.
  • Brendan spoke about the new Grass Roots Licensing classes. Before a coach can take the GrassRoots online and in person classes, he/she has to go to the US Soccer Digital Coaching Center. The Introduction to Grass Roots is free for any coach for a limited time.

The Grass Roots licensing takes the place of the F and E licenses. As of January 1, those courses were removed from registration. There are now modules for 4 v 4, 7 v 7, 9 v 9 and 11 v 11. Before you can get a D license, you have to do three of the four modules. One of the modules has to be the 11 v 11 and that has to be done in person. The others can be done online. There is no indication whether coaches have to complete the three modules to coach a team. The in-person licensing courses start in February.

  • There will be a new fee structure set by NISL. There will no longer be any player card fees. Cards will only be printed if necessary for tournaments. Starting in the fall of 2018, there will only be 8 games in the fall outdoor season. This will allow for more weeks to re-schedule due to weather and also allow for weekends off for tournaments. Plus, it will help with the rankings.
  • The pre-season tournament has been changed to a knockout tournament. The first game will be played the week of September 10. The winner goes on to play another game in the fall. The last two games are played in the spring. The home team will be designated and they will have to pay the A/R fees.
  • NISL is going to appoint commissioners per age group to take care of questions and issues.
  • Registration deadlines are 1/18 for Premiership; 2/8 for conference and club levels.
  • Rankings are available through the NISL website but it is for members only—parents cannot reach that page. All the rankings that are listed now will change for the spring season. They were ranked regardless of location but when games start being scheduled, they will be ranked by regions again. Collaborative scheduling will be open again for us to use before the scheduling meeting on March 18th.
  • There will be an opportunity this spring for uncommitted Juniors and Seniors to play exhibition games in front of college coaches. More information will follow.
  • Meeting adjourned at 12:05 pm
