RE:Delegate Chair Information and Responsibilities

The 2009 AAUW National Convention “Breaking through Barriers” promises to challenge, inspire, and excite you. As a delegate, you have a unique opportunity to represent your state at the convention in St. Louis. This mailing gives all the information you need to make your decision to attend this important event. Your registration fee covers your attendance at workshops, business sessions, plenary sessions, Welcome Reception, and more.

The following section from the AAUW Association Bylaws Article XVI, Section 3.a. State Representation explains the process of accreditation of state delegates for the convention.

Each state shall be entitled to a maximum of 17 delegates who shall be incoming, continuing, or outgoing state board members. Delegates shall be certified by the state president. If the state delegation is incomplete prior to convention, other branch members from the state may be certified by the state president as state delegates if the member’s branch delegation is filled.

State delegates should visit the 2009 AAUWNational Convention website at to register and for all of the latest news about the event. Delegates can also register by mailing or faxing the downloadable form from the website or the registration form in the convention portion of the Spring AAUW Outlook. Instruct your delegates to complete the appropriate information on voting status under STATE.

We encourage delegates to be decided upon as soon as possible to take advantage of the special discounted registration rates. The “Best Value” registration fee is the same price as 2007 and ends on January 15, 2009. The “Early Bird” registration fee ends on March 22, 2009. May 29, 2009 is the deadline for mailed or faxed registration forms. Online registration will be accepted through the start of convention and then onsite. All of this fee and date information is available online at

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

A state delegate has one vote only. You can be registered as a voting delegate in only one capacity – Association, State, or Branch. Please be sure all of your state delegates are certified in only one voting delegate category. A state board member who will be the sole representative of her branch at convention should probably be a branch delegate rather than state delegate in order to carry all the branch’s votes.

Dual members (those belonging to more than one state) are included in the membership roster of the state through which their Association dues are paid and in which their membership is recorded at AAUW Headquarters. Those members may represent ONLY that state.

Please remind each delegate to retain a copy of the registration form and bring to the Convention.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact AAUW at 1-800-326-2289 or or .
