Job Purpose:
Perform numerical simulations with in-house code of turbomachinery components funded by an industrial partner.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum)
  • Further develop an existing in-house CFD code to enable simulations of turbomachinery components
  • Perform high-fidelity simulations to generate benchmark data
  • Analyse the data to extract flow physics
  • Develop modelling approaches based on the data generated with the high-fidelity simulations
  • Regularly disseminate findings by taking the lead in preparing publication materials for referred journals, presenting results at conferences, or exhibiting work at other appropriate events.
  • Carry out administrative tasks associated with specified research funding, for example organisation of project meetings and documentation. Implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely formal reporting
  • Contribute to the writing of bids for research funding
  • Supervise junior staff funded by the same company.
  • Carry out occasional undergraduate supervision, demonstrating or lecturing duties within own area of expertise, under the direct guidance of a member of departmental academic staff

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
PhD in conducting high-fidelity DNS or LES-type simulations
Ability to modify existing in-house research simulation codes for HPC facilities
Detailed understanding and knowledge of compressible flows
Experience in conducting large scale simulations and the associated data-handling
Experience with developing reduced-order models based on high-fidelity data
Teaching at undergraduate level and contributing to teaching at postgraduate level / √
