DIRECTOR OF NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAM (DNEP): Job Description
SECTION I – Background Information:
DEPARTMENT: Nursing
DIVISION: Instruction and Student Affairs
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Administrator / Faculty
APPOINTMENT: 11 month contract
CAMPUS LOCATION: Craig
TITLE OF SUPERVISOR: Dean of Instruction
SECTION II – Summary of Major Functions:
As a full-time faculty member, each Instructional Department Chair/Program Director is responsible for the duties and responsibilities found within the Faculty Job Description.
SECTION III – Primary duties:
Responsibility of Associate Dean, Nursing & Director of Nursing Education Programs include but are not limited to:
Insuring and documenting the Nursing Education Program’s compliance with the Nurse Practice Act, the State Board of Nursing (Board) Rules and Regulations, and all other state or federal guidelines.
Providing a current written job description to the Board for all faculty positions.
Developing and maintaining the relationship between the Nursing Education Programs and the Governing Body, including but not limited to acting as liaison with other programs within the Governing Body and with other Nursing Education Programs.
Demonstrating leadership within the faculty for development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum and other Nursing Education Program components.
Participating in the budget planning process for and administering the Nursing Education Program budget.
Recruiting and selecting faculty for employment, designing and monitoring development plans for faculty, conducting performance reviews of faculty, and participating in faculty promotion and retention.
Developing and coordinating the use of educational facilities and clinical resources.
Identifying and advocating for services needed by students in the Nursing Education Programs.
Acting as liaison with the Board.
Developing and maintaining ongoing relationships within the community, including fostering the Nursing Education Program’s responsiveness to community/employer needs.
Participating in activities that facilitate the DNEP’s professional expertise in the areas of administration, teaching and maintenance of nursing competence.
Determining the need for additional faculty release time for administrative duties.
Maintain compliance with the provisions of the College’s full-time faculty including but not limited to:
Teaching to develop, implement, evaluate, and update the purpose, philosophy, objectives and organizational framework of the program.
Provide competent student advising.
Provide effective and high quality instruction in all levels of health occupations course offerings by continually refining and modernizing curriculum so that it remains educationally sound and meets the high standards the College.
Design, implement, and evaluate curriculum using written plans. Plan and provide didactic instruction and clinical or laboratory experiences which reflect an understanding of the programs’ philosophy, objectives and curriculum.
Plan, monitor and evaluate instruction with regard to methodology, content, and student learning outcomes and assessment of learning. Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to nursing knowledge/practice.
Maintain currency in the faculty member’s field of expertise. Adopt new teaching methodology as appropriate and maintain suitable association memberships. Use alternative delivery technology in lecture and laboratory instruction to enhance student learning.
Participate on college committees or organizations and in community service opportunities as assigned.
Support current simulation technology in Nursing.
Implement institutional, divisional, department or personal goals and initiate and maintain professional relationships with external agencies, business and other educational institutions as assigned.
Interview, recommend, orient, mentor and supervise full-time and part-time faculty as assigned.
Apply learning-centered educational practices such as creating and communicating clearly defined outcomes for student learning.
Embrace and apply the provisions of the College’s Mission Statement, Purposes and Philosophy.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean.
SECTION IV – Secondary duties:
The additional duties and responsibilities of the Chair are:
  1. Play a key role in the selection of faculty, both full time and part time, teaching within the department.
  2. Evaluate faculty within the department and recommend professional development as appropriate.
  3. Schedule delivery of the department curriculum.
  4. Review department programs and courses and recommend modifications as necessary.
  5. Lead the department’s student learning assessment efforts as outlined in the assessment of student learning plan.
  6. Assist in departmental data gathering and reporting and, where applicable, manage program review efforts.
  7. Lead the department’s marketing and promotional efforts.
  8. Assist in awarding departmental scholarships.
  9. Manage the departmental budget and recommend changes as appropriate.
  10. Manage the departmental facilities, equipment, and supplies and recommend changes as appropriate.
  11. Schedule and conduct departmental meetings.
  12. Ensuring text books for all classes are ordered by specific deadlines and orders adhere to college policy.

SECTION V – Important & essential knowledge, skills & abilities:
  1. Excellent written and verbal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, instructors and other staff members.
  2. Competency in adult and vocational education.
  3. Knowledge of current nursing education issues and trends.
  4. Ability to utilize medical and nursing equipment relevant to area(s) of nursing practices.
  5. Ability to use computer and classroom technology.

SECTION VI – Degrees, Licenses, Certificates or Registrations:
Minimum or Required
A. An active Unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado.
B. Documented knowledge and skills related to teaching adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation.
C. Two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent, clinical experience as a practicing registered nurse.
D. Two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent, experience in teaching in an approved Nursing Education Program at or above the AAS- Nursing level.
E. A minimum of a graduate degree in nursing from a Nursing Education Program with national nursing accreditation.
