FCHS Library Media Center Freshman Orientation
Follow the directions to answer each question. YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO IN ORDER!
1. Enter the first names of your group members.
2. Pretend you are just arriving to the library to do some work on a computer during the school day. Walk up to the front desk. Ask Mrs. Dimascio to use a computer, and (one group member) sign in to the library on the iPad. Then, find the computer that you have been assigned, and put your computer number card in the card-holder at the top. Pose for a picture at your computer.
3. Find the big printer/copier (near the windows at the front). On top, you’ll see a sign indicating the library’s hours. What time does the library open and close each day? Type the daily hours in the note.
4. We host a student book club called iRead. To find out more about the club, find the iRead display in the center of the library. Voice-record the title of a book that sounds interesting to you.
5. You’re looking for a fiction book by a popular author. Find the area in Fiction that has books by one of the following popular authors: Stephen King, James Patterson, Mary Higgins Clark, Rick Riordan, or Nicholas Sparks. Take a picture of the shelf, but be sure we can see the call numbers on the spine!
6. Find the Quiet Reading Area near the magazines and newspapers. Pose for a picture in the Quiet Reading Area with a favorite magazine.
7. When you come to the library with your class, you will find a collection of project-specific resources on the Library Weebly. Go to a computer, double-click on “Student Shortcuts,” and click on “FC Library.” Click on the “Class Visits” link near the top, and click on Freshman Orientation. You’ll find the answer to the following question on that website: How many books can students check out at a time, and for how long? Voice-record your response.
8. Get to know the names of the library staff! Go to a computer, double-click on “Student Shortcuts,” and click on “FC Library.” Click on the “About” link at the top to find the names of the three library staff members. Type the last names in the note.
9. Go to a computer, double-click on “Student Shortcuts,” and click on “Destiny2.” Click on the “Catalog” tab at the top to search for the book called Fourth Down and Inches. What is its call number (the number you would use to find it on the shelf)? Type the call number in the note.
