Job Title:Connecting Our Communities Development Officer

Aims and Main Tasks

  1. Establish and develop the Connecting our Communities Projectin keeping with the funding criteria.
  • Market and publicise the project to members of the public and partners.
  • Liaise with referrers as necessary.
  • Provide relevant monitoring and reporting information as required.
  1. Identify and liaise with users of the project.
  • Provide information about the project to participants and potential community activities available.
  • Undertake home visits to agree aims and objectives for volunteer involvement and liaise with relevant group/activity as required.
  • Undertake risk assessments.
  • Involve participants in the reviewing process.
  • Obtain user feedback.
  1. Identify and initiate new activity to addressunmet need.
  • Map current community activity/provision.
  • Gather and assess information from participants and volunteers about unmet need.
  • Undertake development tasks to establish activity.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of new initiatives.
  1. Develop systems to ensure beneficiaries are able to influence the operation of the project.
  • Liaise with participants and the identified community activity
  • Establish base line information using outcomes based framework.
  • Gather information through on-going use of outcomes based framework.
  • Organise focus groups as appropriate.
  • Organise events to seek views of beneficiaries.
  • Communicate findings to influence project development.
  1. Provide appropriate training, support and supervision for volunteers.
  • Participate in induction and training strategies for volunteers working closely with other Neath Port Talbot CVS and BAVO staff.
  • Deliver training to volunteers in conjunction with other Neath Port Talbot CVS and BAVO staff or partner agencies as required.
  • Develop support systems and networks for volunteers in partnership with other Neath Port Talbot CVS and BAVO projects.
  • Provide volunteers with relevant information.
  • Provide briefings as appropriate
  1. Contribute to an effective communication system both internally and externally
  • Take responsibility for ensuring appropriate information is provided for dissemination throughout the region and the sector including regular contributions to the website and newsletter.
  • Provide relevant contributions to internal meetings
  • Actively participate in staff support and supervision sessions
  1. Promote the services of Neath Port Talbot CVS and BAVO
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the full range of Neath Port Talbot CVS and BAVO services.
  • Provide access to the range of services offered by Neath Port Talbot CVS and BAVO
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain professional standards at all times
  1. Promote and ensure safe working practices as set out in Health and Safety legislation eg. Health and Safety At Work Act 1974 and Management of Health and Safety regulations 1999
  • Promote and monitor safe working practices in line with Health and Safety legislation where they may affect the individuals own health and safety or that of others. Reporting issues and gaps where they may arise
  • Participate in health and safety activities
  1. Undertake professional development as appropriate

The post holder will be required to be flexible with the range of duties undertaken to ensure the operational needs of the organisation can be met. Any such flexibility will be consistent with the overall duties of the post holder.

Neath Port Talbot CVS and BAVO are community development organisations and all staff are required to carry out their duties to support and promote this ethos, including adopting a positive attitude and approach to their post as well as a team working approach.
