Student Dining Committee

2/23/16

Notes

In Attendance: Paula Amols(Director of Dining), Amber Morton, Alex List, Kaylee Hulbig

Paula explained that Dining was looking at a possible change to the 2 block plans, to give less Flex dollars to the 175 plan, and more to the 150 plan, since it seemed to make sense that with more meals a student would need fewer Flex(update: after getting feedback from SGA, no changes will be made, the students there all were overwhelmingly in favor of leaving the plans as they are).

There was a request that Dining do an eating contest, like has been done in the past. Paula said that was something that could be planned for some time after Spring Break, and it would be wings, that seemed to work the best.

Paula told everyone that after Spring Break the hot line at Winslow would be going to all self-serve. This was in response to the budget crisis and being asked to find ways to save money. She explained that Winslow employed some temporary staff through a staffing agency to keep the dining room and server area clean and stocked, and by going to the self-serve model, some of the staff serving on the line could fill that function so the agency temps wouldn’t be needed. There would still always be someone attending the hot lines, to keep them stocked and clean.

Feedback:

Residents in Springer-Franklin appreciated the recent increase in variety of fresh fruit;

Students really liked the fruit pizza that had been offered at a breakfast;

Some clarification on the request from last time for broccoli and cheese at Fast Track—this was the single-serve Birds-eye product(update: this product has been discontinued, that’s why it is no longer being sold);

More requests for turkey bacon in T-Room;

Students really like the grilled chicken and chicken wraps in Winslow;

The warm syrup by the waffles gets very messy, is there a different way to serve or dispense it? (update: Chef Tim is going to try something different. The syrup won’t be warm, but in asking around, that didn’t seem to be a big deal)

Next meeting is March 8th
