The Nemea Center for Classical Archaeology
ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIELD SCHOOL IN:
NEMEA, GREECE (Classics N172A)
MYCENAE, GREECE (Classics N172B)
SUMMER 2006
The program will run from 4 June to 1 July 2006 at Nemea and 2 – 30 July at Mycenae. Students may participate in either or both of the 4-week sessions. Work in the museum and/or on the excavation will be 5 days a week app. 7:00 am to 3:00 pm (excavation begins at 6 am and finishes in the field earlier). Time will be spent in the museum on cleaning, conservation and cataloguing of artifacts. Optional afternoon and weekend trips will be organized to areas of both archaeological and cultural interest. Costs will include airfare (from SFO = c. $1300), food and lodging (c. $1400) and a participation fee (c. $600). 4 or 8 units of summer session credit from UCB can be obtained by registering for N172 A and/or B.
If you are interested in joining the group, please complete the following application and return it to me by Dec 15th 2005 – either as an e-mail attachment or in hard copy to my office or mailbox in Dwinelle Hall.
There are no specific pre-requisites. The class limit has been set as 10 students per session, but this is somewhat flexible and I will not know the exact number of students that I can accommodate until sometime in February 2006 – but you will then be notified and supplied with more specific instructions as to how we will proceed. Completing the application does not mean that you must come – only that you are interested. Final commitment to the program will be determined and declared in the Spring.
Thank you for your interest,
