COORDINATOR, CAREER AND JOB PLACEMENT

DEFINITION

Under supervision of the Dean, Student Services, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and administering the college career/jobplacementcenter including coordination of the student employment process and career search services.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

The incumbent in this position under minimal supervisionwill performprofessional and technical work in support of Career/Job Placement Center.Outstanding creative, critical thinking, problem solving and public relations skills are essential as is the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across departments, programs, offices and the community. The awareness and application of industry specific technology to advance the services of the department is essential as is the ability to stay current and innovative in the career/job placement field.The incumbent will work closely with college students, faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community business owners and leaders to build a career/job placement operation that serves the career and job goals of AHC students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops career/job placement center services policies and procedures and coordinates the function of all career and job placement searchactivities.
  2. Plans master calendar and schedule of the center’s activities.
  3. Promotes and coordinates development of student employment on campus and off campus.
  4. Manages student employment, career/job placementcenter budgets, processes records, augmentations, transfers, and funding proposals; and maintains/processes statistical reports.
  5. Assist students in career assessment and research; assist students with utilization of computerized career information systems.
  6. Builds new and supports existing relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, associations and civic organizations to support the development of career search resources and job placement.
  7. Serves as aprincipal liaison between the college and regional employers to createstudent employment opportunities.
  8. Coordinates the dissemination of career information to students, counselors, and faculty; coordinates/implements on and off campus recruitments of employers through website, mailings, career/job/ fairs, personal contacts and other recruitment efforts.
  9. Develops, coordinates, and leads or participates in classroom presentations, various workshops, orientations, high school visitations, and other outreach activities as needed.
  10. Coordinates the development and maintenance of current career resources and assessment services and updates assessment test.
  11. Reviews and analyzes resource materials for career services and selects appropriate options.
  12. Coordinates career center service efforts with other student success services.
  13. Liaisons with career development instructors to ensure coordination between curriculum and career/ placement services and to plan new opportunities/initiatives and reviews and recommends updates toinstructor’s manual for personal development classes.
  14. Identifies and develops annual plans, reports, and metrics to manage and improve career searchand placement; creates internal and external reports; maintains required records.
  15. Coordinates, implements, and supervises the hiring process of student workers.
  16. Initiates, coordinates and/or participates in special events such as career/job fairs, career exploration events or other related efforts.
  17. Ensures job search technology is current and useful for employees and students; troubleshoots issues and provides solutions.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Career services technology;

Coordination techniques, office management, and organizational skills;

Fundamentals of career and job placement assessment and interviewing;

Occupational information resources and the job market;

Principles of good customer service and public and human relations techniques;

Budget preparation and budget reporting and electronic financial recordkeeping;

Awareness of local, regional and statewide socioeconomic conditions;

Community resources and services;

Basic statistics, research methods, and reporting;

Standard accounting practices;

Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and

Written business communications.

Demonstrated Ability to:

Education/Experience

A bachelor’s degree preferredORan associate degree required with desired course work in in Education, Human Relations, Psychology, Sociology or Human Services, supplemented by three years' experience supporting clients in a business or higher education environment (career and/or student development advising)or supplemented by six years' of related experience in a business or community organizationORany equivalent combination of training and experience.

Working Conditions:

Duties are primarily performed in an office environment, at a desk or at a computer;

The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal daily duties;

May travel to other campus and community locations;and

The incumbent will have contact with students, staff, community agencies, and the general public requiring tact and excellent oral communication skills.

Physical Demands:

May sit for extended periods of time;

Operates a computer;

Communicates over the telephone; and

Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
