Volume 93, Issue 2 January 23, 2013
Our Mission Statement: Heavenly Father, through your Holy Spirit inspire us to lives of service to Jesus, our Lord. Help us to respond with love and compassion to human needs, and to be faithful in sharing the Gospel to future generations. Lead us in faith, hope, and love in our daily walk so that we will work for peace in our world, and grow in unity with all Christians.
As you all know, we are in a time of transition between regularly called pastors. This is a special time to sit back, take inventory, celebrate, and learn from the past but let it go so we can move into the future to which God is calling us.
Just a word about “call”. A “call” from God is an invitation to use our gifts – our skills, our passions, our time, and our finances – to serve God. All of our gifts come from God and all our gifts are given to us to be used “for the common good.” (read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 – or read chapters 12-13!)
To help us discover some of our gifts and how God is calling us to serve, we have scheduled small group meetings to share joys, ideas, possibilities and concerns. They will be held on Sunday, Feb 3, during the Sunday School hour; Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7:00 pm; Thursday, Feb. 7 at 2:00 pm; and Sunday, Feb. 10 immediately following the second service. All meetings will be held in the library. You are all encouraged to come; sign-up sheets are available at the back of the church or you can call the church office to register. If you decide to come and didn’t register, come anyway! And if any of these times don’t work for you, let us know when you are available and we will try to work something out. There is even a signup sheet for that purpose!
A transition team has been “called” to help us with the process. They are Nick Auman, Jacki Cunningham, Mike Erdley, Dave Menges, Pat Propst, and Anne Varney. One or more of them will be at each of our meetings.
Since you are all members of the body of Christ at St. John’s we welcome your input. This will not be your only chance to participate but it is an important one. When we have learned enough about who we are and where God is calling us through surveys, discussions and study, we will put together a congregational profile to be shared with potential pastors. Our purpose is to prepare for the pastor God is calling to lead us into our future.
As you ponder all of this, reread the mission statement printed above and see how your vision fits with it and how we might move ahead in living it.
May God bless and guide you as we move forward on this journey together.
In Christ’s name and for his sake,
t Pastor MarthaSue Moll
