Title:Landform Presentation

Objectives:

1.  The students will learn about the different types of landforms.

2.  The students will apply their new knowledge to create a PowerPoint presentation about landforms.

Timeline:

Two 45 minute class periods

Procedures:

Slide 1 - Get Started

1.  Open Microsoft Power Point.

2.  Click the Design tab.

3.  In the Themes section, click the More down arrow (on right).

4.  Have students click the design of their choice.

5.  Click in the Click to add title textbox and type: Landforms.

6.  Click in the Click to add subtitle textbox and type: Student’ name.

7.  Go to File Save As… and save the presentation in the student’s folder.

Slide 2 - Insert Clip Art

1.  Click the Home tab.

2.  Click the down arrow of the New Slide icon .

3.  Choose the Two Content layout (2nd row, 1st choice).

4.  Type the name of the first landform into the title textbox (ex. – Hill).

5.  In the left textbox, click on Click to add text.

6.  Have students type the definition of the first landform.

7.  In the second textbox, click on the Clip Art icon (see below).

8.  In the Search for box, type the first kind of landform: hill.

9.  Click the down arrow of the Selected media file types box and uncheck All media types.

10.  Check the Photographs box and click Go.

11.  Have students scroll through the pictures and decide which one best describes a hill.

12.  Click the middle of the desired picture.

13.  Save.

Slides 3 – 6

1.  Repeat steps #2 - #13 above for the following landform types: Mountain, Plain, Valley and Island.
The placement of the text and pictures can alternate between the left and right boxes.
If the Clip Art box “disappears” when students click on the Clip Art icon on the slide, just click it again to make it “reappear”.

2.  Save often.

Slide 7

1.  Click the down arrow of the New Slide icon.

2.  Choose the Two Content layout.

3.  Type: Peninsula.

4.  In one of the textboxes, click on Click to add text.

5.  Type the definition of peninsula.

6.  In the other textbox, click on the Insert Picture from File icon (see below).

7.  Navigate to the 2nd Grade folder on the Desktop (May not be available on all campuses. If not, search in clipart.)

8.  Double click the 2 Landform folder.

9.  Double click the peninsula file.

10.  Save.

Add Transitions

1.  Click the Transitions tab.

2.  To the right of the Transition choices, click the More arrow .

3.  Click a transition to view it.

4.  Have students click the transition of their choice.

5.  Click Apply To All.

6.  Save.

Run the Slide Show

1.  Click the Slide Show tab.

2.  Click the From Beginning icon.

3.  Advance through the slides by either clicking the mouse or pressing the right arrow key on the keyboard.
