NEWS FROM UNITED FOR ALL AGES – MARCH 2018

The first two months of 2018 have seen many new projects bringing older and younger people together. From schools, colleges and universities active in their local communities to parent and toddler groups and nurseries visiting older people’s care homes and housing schemes - the sky really is the limit for intergenerational interaction. Here is our latest news.

MIXING MATTERS – HOW SHARED SITES CAN BRING OLDER AND YOUNGER PEOPLE TOGETHER AND UNITE BRITAIN

Our latest report, Mixing Matters, has attracted a lot of attention. It shows how shared sites can promote shared care and play, housing and living, learning and work, community spaces and activities. We are working with national and local organisations to make shared sites happen across the country – our ambition is for 500 shared sites by 2022. HOUSING: EXPLORING THE WAY FORWARD FOR AN AGEING POPULATION – NATIONAL CONFERENCE 21 MARCH

Following the recent select committee report on housing for older people, this national conference at the Wellcome Collection in London will focus on improving housing and care options for our ageing population. Organised by The French Hospital Almshouses as part of its 300th anniversary, conference details are here.

JOINT SELECT COMMITTEES’ INQUIRY INTO ADULT CARE FUNDING

With the government planning a green paper on reforming care this summer, the Communities and Local Government and Health and Social Care select committees are holding a joint inquiry into care funding. The deadline for submissions is 7 March. See United for All Ages’ submission here.

INQUIRY INTO INTERGENERATIONAL CONNECTION

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Social Integration, chaired by Chuka Umunna MP, has launched an inquiry into intergenerational connection with a collection of essays, Ages Apart?. More on the APPG’s work here.Denise Burke will be giving evidence on behalf of United for All Ages to the inquiry on 21 March.

AGEING IN COMMON – AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE – 16-18 APRIL

Organised by National Care Forum and Common Age, this conference in Berkshire will include intergenerational strands and the inaugural Commonwealth Elders Forum.

NATIONAL CARE HOME OPEN DAY – SATURDAY 21 APRIL

The theme this year is ‘linking communities’ so it’s a great opportunity to showcase intergenerational work and to start new projects bringing older and younger people together.
