GOD BLESS US EVERY ONE

CHARACTERS

TIMOTHY CRATCHITT – (young adult) “Tiny Tim” according to this storyline received the best medical care, thanks to Scrooge and not only survived but became a doctor himself. He lost sight of his past however and developed a somewhat elitist worldview. He carries himself with a formal stiffness and still retains a slight but noticeable limp. He is instantly attracted to MILLICENT when they meet and she is ultimately responsible for his change of heart.

MILLICENT MARTIN – (young adult) is an optimist who sees the best in people and situations. She is a nurse and a crusader for the rights of the poor. She drops her guard long enough to fall in love with TIM and have her heart broken before things are patched up in Act II. She sees the good in TIM long before he sees it himself.

BERTIE FEZZIWIG – (median adult) is the grown, spinster daughter of the Fezziwig’s from the original “A Christmas Carol”. She is a nurse in the clinic and is being courted by CHARLIE.

CHARLIE BARKIS – (median adult) is a handyman and he is clearly well-liked by all in the cast. He is plain-spoken and lives in the present. He is trying to get BERTIE to notice him but he thinks that she is out of his league.

COLIN – (child) is a reminder of TIM’s poor, sickly childhood. He sees TIM as a potential father figure and is very upbeat in Act I but becomes calloused in Act II after he is put out on the street to fend for himself.

TESS – (older child or teen) is COLIN’s sister. She is extremely wise for her age and very protective of her brother.

BOB CRATCHITT – (older adult) TIM’s father and, in a sense, his conscience.

DR. CHAUNCEY BUXTON – (median to older adult) is the villain. He is a bureaucrat who is trying to get the clinic from TIM for his own personal gain. He is all goodness and light to TIM but he is the devil to everyone else.

NURSE GRIMLEY – (young, median or older adult) is BUXTON’s sidekick. She is the personification of her name.

RATSWORTH – (young to median adult) is the guy who does BUXTON’s dirty work. He should look like a bouncer and display total disdain to anyone who wants to do the right thing.

MAGISTRATE WIGGINS - (older adult) is the judge and he knows right from wrong (and he’s on the side of right every time). All other characters, even BUXTON, are afraid of him. Even though he can’t always find his glasses – and sometimes they’re right on his head – he is still always sharp when it comes to knowing and acting on the law.

GEORGIE SQUIRES –(teen) is the leader of the gang of pickpockets. He has taken COLIN into his gang. He’s not a bad kid, just doing what he has to do to survive.

TREVOR – (younger teen or child) is GEORGIE’s sidekick.

REVEREND HUBBLE – (young, median or older adult) is an Anglican pastor who is sincere and intellectual. His voice should be distinctive.

CONSTABLE BICKLE – (median adult) is a sincere, duty-bound cop who does his best to keep crime out of his district of London. He is deferential to his betters (TIM), friendly with his peers (CHARLIE) and gruff with the lawbreakers (pickpockets).

FISHMONGER – (young, median or older adult) is a dirty Cockney worker who is protective of his “corner” but sells clearly bad fish. He could be physically big, due to his profession.

MEDICINE PEDDLER – (young, median or older adult) is like the “tonic salesman” we have seen on sitcoms like Andy Griffith or Gunsmoke. Sort of slimy and clearly a swindler. He can pick a fight and then slip away without any confrontation.

VEGETABLE VENDOR – (young, median or older adult) is street-wise and dirty (since she deals with vegetables). She is not afraid of confronting any of the other vendors on the street and will quickly join a fight if her turf is threatened (because she can more than take care of herself).

WOMAN WITH LICE – (young or median adult) clearly has some bad hair. She should look poor and uneducated.

MAN WITH BROKEN TOE - (young or median adult) is something like a blacksmith so he should be burly.

WOMAN WITH GIRL – (median adult) isn’t necessarily the girl’s mother but she is acting in a motherly way when she brings the girl to TIM in the clinic. She looks poor and desperate but again, maternal. She turns the comic scene serious when she enters.
