4j. Newsletter : NEXT DUE DATE 5/10/14
Board members need to clarify an official procedure for which members should consistently write articles for Perspectives each quarter and which members, outgoing or incoming, should be responsible for writing articles for the December newsletter when board members are changing (every other year)
I do worry that if we narrow down to a specific list of people that should write articles, the range of articles may not have the breadth I have seen. However, I think most members have supported Perspectives because they enjoy contributing and not because they “must”. My opinion is that certain offocers probably warrant an article every time, such as those reporting what is going on in their region. Some should report during key times, such as organizing conference or those that have season responsibilities such as YAM. However, everyone should be strongly encouraged to submit and that all members will receive notice.
I also wondered if we should have any consistent content such as regional reports. Right now it looks like we get a mix of regional reports along with some random topics, which looks fine to me. I don’t think I have ever specified a topic for folk s to write about, but it has always been good stuff. ****Maybe just have announcements or shout outs in a column for each region so everyone knows what has happened.
4k. Anna Nichols would like to continue her blog (artteachershelpal.blogspot.com) as a result of her discussions with art teachers at conference. Her research in discovering the number and placement of public school art teachers in Alabama, was accumulated as a result of these discussions .The blog speaks to art teachers about pertinent topics like classroom management and other art room issues. Anna would like us to take over the research. Donna Russell would like to continue the research with her contacts with Dr. Bice. As a result, the Alliance and the AAEA are planning to partner to figure out where art teachers are in Alabama, and help us to be able to contact them and offer membership/PD opportunities. Lindsay Mouyal has the current contacts as a result of Anna’s research.
Tammie Clark moves that we the AAEA form a working group to build on the research compiled by Anna Nichols with the help of Donna Russell and the Alliance and Larry Gibson seconds, motion passes.
4l. Claire Mathews, book donation, would like to give them out at conference
Donna Russell at the Alliance for Education in the Arts will accept the books, provide her with a tax deductible receipt, and allow us to pass them out at conference with a sticker saying it was a gift from the author, the Alliance and AAEA. We cannot accept the books as a 501c(6) organization becasue we cannot provide the tax deduction.
