Using ModCalfor Training Skills– A Step-By-Step Guide

Here is a step-to-step guide for using ModCal for Training Skills on flash drive. Screen shot pictures are included, and a circle indicates where participants should focus.

  1. Insert the ModCal flashdrive into your computer.
  1. On the bottom right side of your computer screen, click on “Start”

  1. When you click on “Start”, your computer screen will display the following. Click on “My Computer”.

  1. After you click on “My Computer”, click on “ModCal”. (The ModCal on your computer may be in the D, F, G, H, or I drive, but just click on the “ModCal” icon. )

  1. After you click on “ModCal” your computer screen will display the following. Click on “ModCal.exe”.

6. After you click on “ModCal.exe” a new computer screen window will pop up and will look like the following. This is a 38 second video introduction message by Jhpiego’s Vice President and Medical Director, Harshad Sanghvi.

7. After watching the orientation video, click on the “Open” tab on the middle left side of your computer screen. Here you will find a list of all of the ModCal modules. It is extremely important that you watch every module in order starting with the“Course Overview”.

8. Continue taking all modules until you finish “9, Managing Training”. Click on the “Open” tab again, and you will see that the next item is “Final Exam”. Each participant will need to pass the final examination. Once you finish taking the final exam, ModCal will automatically inform you if you have received a passing score or not. If you do not pass the course, review the modules you found challenging and take the exam again until you pass.

9. Print out proof of completion from the internet. After you pass the exam, you will receive a pass code and a link to the web for you to print a certificate of completion. Go to the web and enter your pass code to print your certificate, or submitthe pass codeto Jhpiego and Jhpiego will issue you a certificate indicating your successful completion of the ModCal for Training Skills. This pass code or certificate is required to attend a group-based course or participate in a co-training experience.

Important Information to Know About ModCal

  1. There are eight (8) modules (Module #2 “Principles of Training” to Module #9 “Managing Training”), including a Course Overview. Each module will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. Therefore, because Lesotho participants must complete all modules and the Final Exam prior to the start of the Preceptor Workshop on November 16th or November 18th (depending on the specific start date of your workshop), participants should complete 2 – 3 modules per week. The following calendars can be used as a guide to ensure that you complete the ModCal for Training Skillsbefore the workshop.

  1. Please do not take all modules at one time! You will not retain as much information. But after you finish using ModCal, close the program by clicking on the “X” in the upper right hand side of your computer screen as shown below. The next time you open up ModCal you will have to click on the “Open” tab at the left side of your screen and click on the module you want to view.
  1. Below the “Final Exam” tab (after clicking “Open” on the left side of your computer screen), you will notice that there is a link to “Resources” and “Acknowledgements and Credits”. The “Resources” tab has manuals for Learners and Facilitators and a “Reference Manual”. This “Reference Manual” includes the information that is included in ModCal for Training Skills in written form. The manual is only a source of reference. The “Acknowledgements and Credits” link is a list of contributors who have assisted in creating this ModCal program.
