Nominations for October SAC Employee of the Month:

1. Ms. Cooper says, “I would like to nominate Anthony Acierno. Mr Acierno tirelessly works with students to help them pass and excel on the ACT. He has done this over the last few years with a great deal of diligence and success.

2. Mr. Holt would like to nominate Madeline Rosario. Ms. Pucker adds to this nomination, “I concur! Madeline is an unsung hero! Always willing to lend a helping hand and does any incredible job in all she does. She is truly an asset, not only to CTE, but to the entire school.”

3. Dr. Culpepper says, “I would like to nominate Debbie Vogt for the Teacher of the Month. As a career teacher who will be retiring at the end of the year, she had been the English Department chair for many years, was the yearbook adviser for many years and continues to teach a full load of magnet and non-magnet students in the Pre-AP freshmen English class. She is diligent in preparing her students for post secondary study focusing on the SAT and ACT tests they will eventually take. But her forte is helping students hone their writing skills that will benefit them in whatever career they undertake. She is proactive and research-based in her diverse assignments that enable students of all abilities to believe they can write. She is tough but fair as she prepares all students for what lies ahead. She is a true Paladin who bleeds purple and gold.”

The SAC meeting started at 3:15 pm. Ms. Casserly disseminated the September SAC meeting minutes. Ms. Casserly moved that we approve them, Katie Casserl seconded the motion, all were in favor, the minutes were approved.

Ms. Hjelsand requested another $500 for another round of ACT tutoring to help prepare students for the December ACT test. Dr. Culpepper moved that we vote to spend $500 of our SAC accountability funds on this ACT tutoring. Ms. Venuto seconded the motion. An oral vote was taken, all SAC members voted yes. The motion passed.

Ms. Casserly clarified that, although Ms. Hjesland was voted in as SAC co-chair at the September SAC meeting, she was not a SAC member at that meeting, she was a guest. Thus, she cannot be a SAC officer without first being a SAC member. We cannot add her as a SAC member at this time, or our SAC demographics will be out of alignment with the demographics of our school. At this time, Ms. Casserly will be SAC chair. The bylaws were amended as such.

Ms. Henschel shared with the SAC committee the process all high schools are currently undergoing to consider a new schedule in 2016-2017. The faculty will be voting this week whether or not to explore a new schedule. Pending that vote, there may be more discussion about this at the November SAC meeting.

The template is not yet ready for the School Improvement Plan. It should be ready any day now, and we will be revisiting this at the November SAC meeting.

Ms. Casserly shared information regarding accreditation with the SAC members. The Broward school websites for accreditation were shared so that SAC members can visit them for even more information.

There were 3 nominations for SAC employee of the month for October. They were:
