Your Role

General

  • To assist in the running of the diary for members of the Family Group in conjunction with the Senior Clerk and 1st Junior Clerk;
  • Answering all calls in a timely and professional manner and dealing with them as appropriate;
  • Booking of work at a suitable level for members of the group in accordance with our professional clients’ requirements;
  • To agree fees as appropriate, being aware of the market rate for both the piece of work concerned and the barrister involved;
  • Liaising with solicitors regarding fees, advising on suitable counsel, maintaining appropriate records and sustaining a high level of customer/client service ;
  • Ensure that the brief tracking system is kept up to date and is BarMark compliant;
  • Attend training to develop relevant knowledge and skills;
  • Billing paperwork as appropriate and assist the 1st Junior clerk in keeping diary billing up to date
  • Take papers/Briefs to and from court when requested;
  • Search and locate briefs and papers for forthcoming court hearings;
  • Check daily court lists;
  • To generally assist with the marketing of the Family Group when appropriate and necessary;
  • At all times promoting and maintaining a high level of administrative support to both the internal and external clients of both the Family Team and St Philips Chambers as a whole.

Clerking function

  • Ensuring at all times, by your own conduct, that you remain within the requirements of the Code of Conduct and Policy & Procedures Manual
  • Compliance with, at all times, our established best practice procedures and policies in respect of, but not limited to, The Enterprise Act, money laundering, complaints, conflict searches, fair distribution of work requirements, Direct Access, Public Access, Alternative Dispute Resolution guidelines and the handling of sensitive materials;

All other duties as reasonably requested by the Senior Family Clerk or 1st Junior Clerk
