MARINA COMMISSION MINUTES
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2016
5:00 PM AT 315 QUARTZ STREET, ONTONAGON, MI
SPECIAL MEETING
PRESENT: Fred Chamberlain, Chairman, Members: Elmer Marks, Gerry Mattson, and Joe Erickson. Also attending were the Harbormasters Don Kneisler and Brenton Netz.
ABSENT: James Richardson, Jerry Coey
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 5:00 pm and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by the Chairperson.
AGENDA:
A motion was made by Marks, second by Mattson, (CARRIED) to approve the Agenda.
MINUTES:
A motion was made by Erickson, second by Marks, (CARRIED) to approve the meeting minutes of July 19, 2016.

MANAGER REPORT: covered in Business items
FINANCIAL REPORT: financial report was discussed.
A motion was made by Erickson, second by Marks, (CARRIED) to accept the financial report as presented.
HARBOR MASTERS REPORT
The fish cleaning station has a broken leg and one missing. It is stainless steel and will need special weld. Harbor masters will contact Carl Brees to repair and replace the leg.
Only 2 more boats to be lifted out of the Marina and 1 boat unpaid boat at the slip.
Travel lift is running well.
MARINA BUSINESS
A. DREDGING THE MARINA
Bids are due on October 18th by 1:00 p.m. Any Marina Commissioner is welcome to the bid opening. There are 7 potential bidders.
GEI is requesting Engineering fees for change in scope for Marina dredging MDNR waterways grant project for $2,500.00. The addition services are due to Corps. Of Engineering unable to perform the work due to dredging equipment, time frame and channel too large to navigate the marina so it has to go out on private bids.
A motion was made by Marks, second by Erickson, (CARRIED) to approve the GEI additions fee request for change of scope of the Marina dredging for $2,500.00.

B. TRAVEL LIFT REFUND REQUEST
A customer requested a reduced rate on the travel lift due to him pre-paying for his 2017 slip. He paid $100.00/hour for the lift and he is requesting the $45.00/hour rate with a refund of $55.00.
A motion was made by Erickson, second by Marks, (CARRIED) on a non-precedent basis, to refund $55.00 to Mike Ditty for the travel lift fee.
C. SAXON HARBOR BOATERS SLIPS
Reviewed how many Saxon Harbor boaters have reserved slips – 5 have reserved and 1 on the waiting list.
D. RESERVATIONS FOR 2017 SLIPS
Reviewed the 2017 slips and we are full with 1 person on the waiting list. We need to contact a few local residents who didn’t use their reserved 2016 slips to see if they want a slip for 2017.
E. BUILD DOCKS
The Harbor Masters presented an idea to purchase or build 1 to 3 floating docks to use in the Marina. These docks will be without power for the boaters who do not require it. Don Kneisler had a conversation with a man who has floating docks that he removed from a Marina project that are for sale. He will contact him and get prices and pictures for review.
A motion was made by Erickson, second by Mattson, (CARRIED) to give permission to Don Kneisler to pursue the purchase of 3 docks for not more than $3,000.
OTHER BUSINESS:
· Concerns of theft on the floating docks –suggested purchasing security cameras and a gate.
· The Commission was informed of the 2016 slip holder who has not paid his current bill and the trailer has been locked. A bill and lien notice has been sent to the boat owner.
