Eligibility:
Open to all artists over 18 years of age residing in the U.S.A.
Accepted Media for the Exhibition:
Painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, collage, ceramics, jewelry and photography will be accepted for judging that is representative of Mote’s programs.
All works must be original and executed in the last three years.
All 2-dimensional works must be properly framed, ready to hang and may be no larger than 6’-by-6’.
Accepted Media for the Silent Auction:
In addition to accepting original works of art that meet the guidelines for the exhibition, the silent auction will permit copies of artists’ works i.e. – lithographs, giclées and open editions to be accepted for judging that is representative of Mote’s programs.
Awards:
Awards for Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mention will be given.
Entry Fees:
Artists may submit 2 pieces for the exhibition and 2 pieces for the silent auction.
Entry fee is $20 per work of art for the exhibition. There is no fee for silent auction submissions. Cash, checksmade payable to “Mote Marine Laboratory” or credit card charges will be accepted prior to or at the time of entry. The fee is non-refundable.
Method of Entry:
All works must be hand delivered by the artist or his agent on the date specified. Each work must have an entry form attached to it to be accepted for judging. Works are not required to be for sale. Delivery is to: Jean PurcellHendry Conference Center at the Goldstein Mammal Center of Mote Marine Laboratory, 1703 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, between the hours of 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., on March 10, 2010.
Exhibition Sales:
The artist may choose to donate his or her artwork(s) to Mote for the show or
the artist may choose to receive 70% of the purchase price upon sale of their artwork.
Silent Auction Sales:
The artist may choose to donate his or her piece(s) directly to Mote or
the artist may choose to receive payment of 30% of the purchase price collected from the sale of their artwork.
Notification of Acceptance:
All artists whose work is accepted for the exhibition and the silent auction will be e-mailed a notification by noon Thursday, March 11, 2010. Artists whose work is accepted are invited to attend the opening reception.
Publicity:
Images of works may be used for Mote marketing and publicity purposes.
Insurance and Liability:
Artwork will be handled with utmost care, but Mote and the exhibition committee or anyone working on the show cannot be held responsible for lost or damaged artwork.
Artists are responsible for their own insurance on their artwork.
Pickup Deadline:
All work must be picked up on the designated date. Any work remaining after the final day of pick up will become the property of Mote.
Payment to Artists:
Artists whose work sells during the exhibition or silent auction and who choose to receive compensation will be issued checks from Mote Marine Laboratory within two weeks of the closing of the exhibition.
