2017 Summer Request Form

Students with remaining financial aid eligibility may be awarded for their enrollment in the summer 2017 terms. In most cases, summer financial aid awards are limited to the amount of remaining Stafford loan eligibility for the current aid year, a parent PLUS loan for the summer terms, or an Alternative credit-based loan for qualified students. Students requesting summer financial aid will be given summer budget eligibility even if they have exhausted their federal annual limits, in case they would like to pursue a credit based Alternative Loan. In order to be considered for summer financial aid, students should understand the following conditions. Please hand-initial the spaces below, acknowledging that you have read and understand these terms.

______Students must attach a copy of their summer enrollment schedule along with this signed request in order to receive an Estimated Financial Aid Award Notification for summer aid.

______Students must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress. Please refer to www.hpu.edu/sap for more information.

______Students must notify the Financial Aid Office of any changes to their registration, and update any mailing addresses or phone numbers if necessary.

______Enrollment in credits that are not required for your degree OR enrollment in previously completed coursework cannot be included in summer aid calculations.

______Students will be responsible for any institutional charges related to their summer enrollment if such charges are not fully covered by financial aid or if a student fails to complete their processing requirements prior to the completion of their summer enrollment.

______Students must be registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours in either a single summer term OR combination of summer terms to qualify for loans. Dropping below 6 credits may result in an adjustment or the cancellation of ALL summer aid.

______Loan funds for eligible students will NOT disburse until a student has begun attendance in ALL of their summer courses. If you have excess funds, you may not be eligible for a refund check until such time. If the timing of your disbursement will cause financial hardship, you must discuss your options with your financial aid counselor prior to submitting your summer request form.

______Students may be subject to reduction or repayment of aid for courses they do not complete.

______Once awarded, students will receive an emailed award notification. Please log on to your Pipeline account to accept/decline your summer amounts.

Summer 2017 Disbursement Dates

Summer Session 1, 7A, 8-Week – On or after 05/15/17

Summer Session 4A – On or after 05/30/17

Summer Session 4B – On or after 06/26/17

Summer Session 7B – On or after 07/03/17

Summer Session 4C – On or after 07/24/17

Loans will disburse only once a student begins attendance in ALL of their courses. Partial Pell grant disbursements will occur as students become eligible for them.

Example: Sean is enrolled in a total of 9 credits; 3 credits for summer session 1, 3 credits for summer session 7B, and 3 credits for summer session 4C. He has been awarded a Pell grant and an unsubsidized loan. Sean’s funds will disburse in the following manner:

05/15/17 – 3 credits of Pell.

07/03/17 –3 credits of Pell.

07/24/17 – Final 3 credits of Pell and full amount of loans.

If Sean is eligible for a refund, the Business Office will begin working on his refund check after his attendance in summer session 4C is confirmed along with confirmation of continued enrollment in sessions 7B and 1. If Sean has since dropped any of his earlier courses, he will be subject to a recalculation and the Financial Aid Office may be required to pull back previously disbursed aid. Refund checks typically take 5 – 7 business days to be processed and then they will be mailed to the student’s current mailing address.

**Please plan accordingly for summer expenses as you may not receive funds until later in the summer.**

I understand that if I am eligible for a financial aid refund, it will not be processed or released until I have begun attendance in my final summer course and ALL summer charges have been paid.
