EAHS Boys Tennis Vision and Guidelines 2018

My goal as a coach is to develop a competitive and winning tennis program here at EAHS. In order to accomplish this, I will strive to help each player to develop the physical and mental skills necessary to compete well on the Junior Varsity & Varsity level.

I run a “no cut” program. I want as many students as possible to learn to play this great lifetime sport. I will continueto not cut as long the team does not grow bigger than 24 players. I do hope players will try to learn some of the basic tennis skills before they come out for the team. This can be done by taking lessons or camps. Coach McBride can provide information on GEARS camps and other local options. Players should know how to keep score and where to stand when playing singles and doubles. (Watching tennis on YouTube or TV will help.)

If you are planning on coming out for the team, please contact Coach McBride at . You will be informed of any preseason practices, lessons, and camps to help you get ready for the season.

Practices and Academic Standards

March 6, 2018 is the first official practice. Each player must have a physical and PIAA paper work needs to be turned in to the office by the end of February. Students must print their own paperwork: No student is allowed to practice until their paperwork has been turned in.

Practices will be held immediately after school from 3-5pm (rainy weather may change time and location of practice). All practices are mandatory. If you must miss for any reason you are required to let me know in advance.

If a player misses practice because of illness or another pre-approved event, they will still be able to play the next match.

If a player misses practice for any other reason they will not be able to play the next match/es. The principle is that the players that are working hard everyday will be rewarded with the most playing time.

Players must have passing grades in all classes to participate in matches.

Players must be on time to practices and be prepared to play.

WE ARE A TEAM! All players are expected to stay and support their teammates through all the matches. Approved exceptions can be made for other school events or upon parents’ request in advance.

Supplies Needed for Participation:

  • Insulated water bottle
  • Tennis racquet with fresh strings and grip
  • Tennis shoes: must be tennis shoes or cross trainers. No running shoes!
  • Good quality socks (Cushioned socks will prevent tired feet and blisters.)
  • Racquet/ tennis bag to carry your racquet, shoes and change of clothes.
  • Warm sweat pants and sweatshirt/wind breaker for before and after matches.

Optional Items:

Sweat towel, hat, sun screen, practice shorts with pockets for holding extra balls, healthy snacks (in your tennis bag) to keep energy up.
