  1. Dodgers fans let it be known they were unhappy with Astros slugger Yuli Gurriel / over his racially insensitive gesture toward Yu Darvish / by booing him during pre-game introductions / and his plate appearances during Game 6.
  2. Major League Baseball suspended Gurriel / for the first five games next season / for pulling on the corners of his eyes / after homerun off Darvish / during Houston's 5-3 victory Friday / in Game 3 of the World Series. / The Cuba-born player also used a derogatory Spanish term / in reference to Darvish, who was born in Japan.

  9. Initially, Gurriel apologized in a statement / released by the Astros./ "I made an offensive gesture / that was indefensible," he said. / "I sincerely apologize to everyone / that I offended with my actions. / I deeply regret it."
  10. Gurriel will lose $322,581 / of his $12 million salary next year, / which the Astros will donate / to charitable causes. / He also will be required to undergo sensitivity training / during the offseason.
  11. Darvish said / he couldn't decide whether Gurriel's suspension was appropriate, / but he said / that he understood / why commissioner Rob Manfred didn't impose it during the World Series.

グリエルは、第3戦の2回にドジャース先発ダルビッシュから先制ソロを放った後、ダグアウトで両目尻をつり上げる仕草を見せ、アジア系の人々を侮辱する差別行為として来季開幕から5試合の出場停止処分を受けた。

ダルビッシュは「誰も完璧な人はいない。間違いから学び、前に進めればいい」と寛容な対応を見せていたが、ドジャースファンにはアジア系の人々も多く、簡単に受け流してはくれなかったようだ。
