Job Title:Domestic Assistant

Hours:Monday to Friday, mornings, actual hours by agreement

General Area of Work:Undergraduate and Graduate Rooms, Fellows’ Sets, public areas throughout College

Responsible To:The Accommodation and Housekeeping Manager via the Assistant Housekeeper.

Nature of the Post

To clean and provide a high quality housekeeping service for a designated set of rooms and common parts within the College or an associated College House. Off site houses are mainly in Warkworth Street and Parkside.

Duties and Responsibilities

During Academic Term
  1. To clean daily public areas, bathroom and gyp (kitchen) areas.
  2. Weekly, to clean all designated undergraduate student rooms to the standards defined by the Assistant Housekeeper; to clean any designated graduate rooms whenever instructed by the Assistant Housekeeper.
  3. When on duty, to change over and clean any designated guest rooms as necessary at weekends.
Out of Term/Conference Guests
  1. To clean daily public areas, bathroom and gyp (kitchen) areas.
  2. To make or change beds on a daily basis.
  3. To clean rooms daily to the standards specified by the College Housekeeper.
Other Duties
  1. To maintain all cleaning materials and equipment in a safe and secure manner to comply with COSHH regulations.
  2. To observe all fire regulations are maintained in the property.
  3. To immediately report any Health and Safety defects, faults, or matters of maintenance concern to the College Housekeeper.
  4. To act in the student’s best interest and report any matter of concern to the College Housekeeper.
  5. To report to the Assistant Housekeeper if a student has not been seen for 48 hours.
  6. To assist in packing and sending dirty laundry (twice weekly or as necessary).
  7. Any other reasonable duties that may be required and that are compatible with the nature of the job.

  • Practical hands on approach to the job.
  • Organised in work, with an eye for detail.
  • Flexible when necessary.
  • Reliable
  • Ability to maintain good relations with students and other Housekeeping staff.
Other Information

Holiday entitlement: - 25 days per annum with further 8 Bank Holidays and statutory days (pro rata for part time staff).

Uniform provided.

Contributory pension scheme available after three months service.

Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking area.

Any necessary training (including COSHH) will be provided.

Car parking whilst on duty subject to availability
