Primary Purpose:

The Coordinator of Student Family Services provides unique services to children, youth, and their families to help the student attain maximum benefits from their school programs. School social workers have knowledge and a concern for the wide range of social, emotional, cultural, and economic differences among children, families, and communities. The director will assist the school principals and counselors. The Coordinator is responsible for the Pregnancy Related Services and General Education Homebound programs and the supervision of the homebound teachers.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

Must be licensed Social Worker, Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree

Special Knowledge/Skills:

·  Knowledge of individual and group counseling skills
·  Knowledge and skill in casework methods
·  Awareness and ability to access community resources
·  Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
·  Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students

Experience:

Three to -five years’ experience with at risk youth

Essential Job Functions:

·  Provide case management services to elementary – high school students who have been identified as having chronic school absences, behavior problems, or other barriers to learning

·  Consult with administrative and instructional staff

·  Support campus/district goals of prevention to maintain a healthy and safe school environment.

·  Coordinates the Pregnancy Related Services program

·  Coordinates the General Education Homebound program

·  Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.

·  Coordinate a continuing evaluation of social work services and make changes as needed, based on the findings

·  Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy

·  Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations

·  Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment

·  Assess family needs and make home visits as needed

·  Coordinate the Department’s resource referral process, which can be used to assist children and families from each school

·  Assist the Department in continuing on-going case management documentation

·  Assist the Department in providing crisis intervention as needed

·  Notify appropriate agencies when abuse or neglect is suspected

·  Refer school staff and parents to resources in the community

·  Assist in the planning and implementation of parent involvement activities and parent training and support groups

·  Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisor and colleagues

·  Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents

·  Maintain confidentiality

·  Dependable performance requires reliable and dependable attendance.

·  Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise the Pregnancy Related Services Homebound Teacher

Equipment used:

Personal or laptop computer, printer, copier, fax machine, shredder, calculator, telephone, electronic mobile devices, projector, and video display monitor

The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
