Public Transport (Airport – Ipswich)
If you are flying into London City Airport, it takes about 20 minutes to get from London City Airport to Stratford train station via Poplar on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), alternatively you can take the DLR to Bank and change to the Central Line Station for Liverpool Street. From either railway station the journey time to Ipswich Station is just over an hour.
If you are flying into Heathrow Airport, it takes about 15 minutes on the Heathrow Express train (runs every 15 minutes, to get to London Paddington Station. Then take either the Circle or the Hammersmith and City Tube Line to London Liverpool Street. From Liverpool Street to Ipswich Station is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.
If you are flying into Gatwick Airport, it takes about 30 minutes on the Gatwick Express train (runs every 15 minutes, to get to London Victoria Station. Then take the Circle Tube Line to London Liverpool Street. From Liverpool Street to Ipswich Station is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.
If you are flying into Stansted Airport you can get a direct bus service to Ipswich Railway Station (runs every 2 hours) from Air Direct:
Once at Ipswich Railway Station you can get a Taxi or the SuperRoute 66 bus to Adastral Park.
Public Transport (Ipswich – BT Adastral Park)
Taxis from Ipswich Railway Station to Adastral Park take approximately 20 minutes and will cost around £15 each way.
From Ipswich Railway Station the “Superoute 66” bus service leaves for Adastral Park (“Martlesham Heath, British Telecom”) approximately every 10-15 minutes. The scheduled journey time is around 40-50 minutes; a single fare will cost around £2.20 or £4.00 for a return. The 66B provides a more direct and quicker route. The bus stop is directly ahead of you as you exit the train station.
Arriving At Adastral Park
On arrival you will need to go to Reception to collect a visitor’s pass and register your car (if you have brought one). I will collect you from reception and take you to the meeting room.
We will be meeting in Room G/61C (Room 61C on the Ground Floor) of Callisto House (B81). A map of the Adastral Park campus is here:
Access to Callisto House is restricted by Proximity Card Access (so I’ll have to let you in).
The Hub (B80) contains a canteen and coffee bar. There is a shop (sandwiches, coffee) near The Upper Loading Bay.
Hotels
Note that BT Adastral Park is approximately 10 miles outside of Ipswich itself and so to get from a Hotel to BT Adastral Park will require driving or a taxi. If your Hotel is in Ipswich Town Centre you can also catch the SuperRoute 66 bus (journey time 40-50 minutes, cost approximately £4 return)
Note that I have not stayed in any of these hotels so can’t provided personal recommendation although I have heard good things about both Seckford Hall and The Salthouse.
I am not aware of any special BT negotiated visitor rates at these hotels but asking for the “BT rate” won’t do any harm :-)
