Call for Entries

PENNED: an exhibition of and about drawing with pens and markers

DEADLINE: FRIDAY, May 16, 2008

Penned will be an exhibition of drawings made using commercially available pens and/or markers. Each drawing in the exhibition will be shown with a photograph of the pen(s) used to make the drawing along with artists’ information on their choice of pens. Artists making drawings, sketches, doodles, diagrams or anything else with pens are invited to submit works for consideration.

The exhibition will be held in the Pinkard Gallery, Bunting Center, Maryland Institute College of Art as part ofArtscape 2008. The gallery is a 1,000+ square footspace located at the site of the main Artscape event.Artscape 2008 is the 27th year of Baltimore’s annualarts festival and is the largest arts festivals in the region. Hundreds of thousands of visitors attend Artscape each yearand many of these will view the exhibition. Artscape is produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts, Inc. on behalf of the Baltimore Festival of the Arts, Inc., Mayor Sheila Dixon

This exhibition will travel to EllipseArtsCenter, Arlington, VA and Lump Gallery/Projects, Raleigh, NC and possible other galleries in the coming years.

Application Materials

Entries should be submitted via email to the address below. Artists may send one to five images of pen drawings, a corresponding image of the pen(s) used to make each drawing, written information on the pen(s) used, and the completed application form. Only one drawing will be selected per artist. Images should be jpegs, preferably under 1 MBin size each.

Guidelines

1. Artists living anywhere are eligible to submit works.

2. All drawings will be presented in frames provided by Artscape.

3. Drawings should be no larger than 16” x 20”. There is no minimum size.

4. If accepted, it is the responsibility of the artist to send their work for the exhibition via the US Postal Service or one of the existing delivery services.

5. Works should be valued at no more than $600.

6. Artscape will travel thisproject and would like to hold the works for up to four years.

7. Artscape will produce a low volume photo-copied publication of this exhibition.

8. Artscape and other hosting galleries reserve the right to reproduce included drawings for publicity, catalogue and marketing purposes.
