Brilliant starters:

Getting started with iMovie

]  Connect the digital video camcorder to the computer with the firewire cord.

]  Turn on camcorder.

]  Select iMovie program.

]  Double click on the iMovie folder, then the iMovie icon.

]  Make sure your machine is set on Thousands of Colours on the control strip.

]  Click on New Project.

]  Title your movie and click on Create.

Recording Live

]  Press PLAY on the camcorder and your video should be displayed on the LCD display screen on the camcorder and the computer.

Importing digital video into a movie:

]  Make sure the Mode Switch is set to Camera mode.

]  or

]  Use the Camera playback controls to view the tape in the iMovie screen on the computer.

]  Click the PLAY button. When the iMovie monitor displays the scene you want to use, click the Import button to begin importing.

]  To stop importing, click the Import button again.

]  Select a clip, drag it down to the Timeline at the bottom and use play controls underneath to review clip

Splitting video clips

]  Click on the clip to select it.

]  Move the playhead (red line)to where you want to split it.

]  Choose Split Video Clip at Playhead from the Edit menu.

]  If you want to remove part of the clip, click on it to select it, and click on delete

Adding and editing titles:

]  Select a title style from the list in the middle of the Titles panel.

]  To speed up or slow down the titling effect, adjust the speed and/or pause sliders.

]  If a title scrolls, you can change the direction it scrolls by clicking on the arrows on the direction button.

]  Drag the title from the list in the middle of the Titles panel to the clip viewer.

]  If you want the title to appear over a clip, place it before that clip. A title icon appears between the clips, and a small progress bar appears under it.

Adding Scene Transitions

Transitions smooth the cuts between scenes (clips).

]  Click the Transitions button.(T)

]  Select a transition in the Transitions panel.

]  Drag the transition from the Transitions panel to the desired location in the timeline viewer

Adding Music :to record audio CD music into your movie:

]  Click the Audio button.

Insert the audio CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

]  If the CD automatically starts playing through your computer’s speaker, stop it by clicking the Play button on the Audio panel.

]  Select a track in the Audio panel and do one of the following:

]  Drag the audio CD track from the panel to audio track 1 or 2 in the

timeline viewer.

]  Click the Record Music button on the Audio panel to start recording

music into your movie. To end recording, click the Stop button.

Extracting audio from a video clip

]  If a video clip already contains audio when you import it, you can remove it from the clip.

]  In the timeline viewer, select the video clip that contains the audio you want to extract.

]  Choose Extract Audio from Advanced on the menu bar. The extracted audio appears in audio track 1.

]  When you extract audio, you copy (not remove) it from the video clip.

however, iMovie turns the volume of the video clip all the way down when you extract the audio, so you won’t hear the audio in the original video clip

anymore.)

]  When you have finished creating your iMovie, go to File-Export Movie-Export.

]  You can then choose how to export the file and where to save it.
