Dear Colleague

I am writing to you to explain the nature and functions of Lanarkshire LDC. While this letter

is aimed especially at new entrants to the Dental List, I hope that it will be helpful for

everyone.

The Committee is normally composed of thirteen General Dental Practitioners, nine of whom

are directly elected at the AGM. The other four members are the GDPs who are elected to

the ADC by postal ballot and who serve as ex-officio members on the LDC. Committee

members practice within the Lanarkshire Health Board area. Secretarial and administrative

support is provided by our Clerk.

The Committee's function is to protect and further the interests of all GDPs within the

Lanarkshire Health Board's area. This includes:-

1. The promotion of Dental Health.

2. Obtaining, circulating and presenting the opinions of GDPs to any other relevant bodies,

including:-

  • Lanarkshire Health Board
  • Scottish General Services Committee
  • other LDCs
  • the BDA
  • the GDC

3. To give help and advice on any matter including problems arising from NHS Regulations

The work of the Committee is funded by means of a voluntary levy. If you are not already

supporting the work of the Committee in this way, you are urged to sign a mandate (form

attached) to enable this levy (max 0.2 pence per pound gross earnings) to be deducted from

your monthly NHS cheque.

A list of the current LDC members is enclosed and this will enable you to contact the Clerk

or any member should you wish help or guidance.

The Chairman and members of Lanarkshire LDC trust that they can count on your support

in their endeavours on your behalf.

Mandate for deduction of Voluntary Levy

I the undersigned hereby authorise Practitioner Services – Dental (PSD) to deduct each month such a sum as shall from time to time be decided by Lanarkshire Local Dental Committee (LLDC) but not exceeding maximum £2 per thousand of my gross monthly earnings from dental treatment provided under the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1948 and subsequent amending and superseding legislation; and I request that the sum so deducted be remitted to the Clerk of the LLDC and that her receipt be accepted by PSD.

I declare that this mandate which replaces any previous mandate given by me for deduction of Voluntary Levy shall take effect immediately and shall be effective until cancelled by me in writing.
