Action / Information
1. Meet with your Head or a member of the SLT / Agree the Key area to be developed. Ensure either SIP priority or SLT curriculum priority. Ensure that the head/SLT will give you support in the development of the curriculum area.
Ask your Head if you could have a governor link person nominated to work with you.
Develop a timeline – with number of staff meetings/INSETS identified.
Discuss any existing drug education policies or documents.
2. Seek advice/information / Healthy lives Advisors
Attend a course on Drug Education
3.Curriculum Audit
Identify a key area that needs developing in your school. (Eg: Drug Ed) / Look at the current curriculum in your school.
Are the any gaps?
Are there any weaknesses?
4. Staff questionnaire / Ask all staff to complete a curriculum questionnaire on Drug Education.
5. Analysis of children’s knowledge/consultation / Jugs and Herrings audit to be carried out with the whole school.
Children’s work to analysed and inserted into Jugs and Herrings data analysis grid.
6. Example resources / Take time to look through example schemes of work, resources and policies supplied by your Healthy lives advisors.
Using the analysis results of teacher questionnaire and Jugs and Herrings decide on options best for your school.
  1. Staff meeting
(over 2 meetings) / Present current Local Authority data and statistics. Present Jugs and Herrings results for your school and staff questionnaire results. Present examples of SOW and resources.
Feedback from staff – what do they think about the SOW/what is taught at different times.
8. Governor / Present examples of SOW chosen by staff to link governor plus all results presented to staff.
9. Policy / Look at example policies provided by Healthy Lives advisors and begin to develop your school policy.
10. Staff meeting / Developing staff knowledge of drugs
11. Policy / Presenting draft policy to SLT/Governors
12. Parents / Presenting proposed objectives and policy to parents. Allow a consultation and feedback time.
13. Analysis of parents consultation / Take into account parents views – do they agree/disagree with SOW? Do you and SLT need to edit your proposed curriculum?
14. Scheme of work / Finalising and agrees objectives to be delivered and resources to be used in your school.
15. Resources / Ordering resources in.
16. Staff meeting / To support staff writing up their lesson plans
17. Implement / Deliver the curriculum and get feedback from staff afterwards.
18. Review / Review the curriculum with parents, staff and children and make any necessary changes for next years implementation.
