STEPS to Getting Your GED

Step 1. Obtain an Authorization Ticket from Jefferson City:

-  Mail a completed Application for Missouri Certificate of High School Equivalence (GED) (attached or visit

Money Order is payable to: State of Missouri

þ  Wait until you receive a GED Authorization Ticket. It takes about one week.
Step 2. Go to an Adult Education and Literacy Center to Prepare to Test

All GED candidates are REQUIRED to go to an Adult Education and Literacy Center

before registering to take the GED test. At the Adult Education and Literacy Center you will:

þ  Complete a GED Demographic Survey (required of all GED candidates)

þ  Learn how to use the new approved GED calculator (allowed on Part I of the Math test).

þ  Learn how to use the new answer sheet (some questions do not have multiple-choice answers).

Step 3. Call Testing Services and be added to our Waiting List –

TAKE NOTE: These TWO items must be in front of you when you call:

Ø  Demographic Survey (8 page green/white document that has been completed)

Ø  Authorization Ticket (1 page document received from GED State Office, Jefferson City)

Office hours: Fall and Spring semesters – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Summer semester – 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Step 4: Make Payment of $20.00 Test Administration Fee!

Mail or hand deliver the $20.00 (money order or cash) test registration fee to Testing Services within 1 weeks of desired test date. Once we receive your $20 test administration payment, we will mail you a confirmation letter with information for test date. PAYMENT IS NOT ACCEPTED ON TEST DATE.

Test Administration Payment Policy: The $20.00 testing fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The $20 test registration fee is charged each time you register or change your test date.

Candidates with a Documented Disability

SCORE REQUIREMENTS

A minimum standard score of 2250, which is an average of 450 on the five tests, with no score below 410, is necessary to qualify for the certificate. Scores are valid for two years from test date.

WHAT DO THE GED TESTS MEASURE?

The Tests of General Education Development (GED Tests) consist of five tests which measure achievement in subject areas associated with a high school program of study. The five tests, and their relative content emphasis, are:

1. WRITING Organization (15%); Sentence Structure (30%); Usage (30%); Mechanics (25%);. Part II: Essay.

2. SOCIAL STUDIES: National History (25%); Economics (20%); Civics and Government (25%); World History

(15%); Geography (15%).

3. SCIENCE: Life Science (45%); Earth and Space (20%); Physics and Chemistry (35%).

4. READING: Literacy Test (75%); Nonfiction Prose (25%).

5. MATHEMATICS: Number sense and Operations (25%); Measurement and Geometry (25%); Data Analysis,

Statistics, and Probability (25%); Algebra, Functions, and Patterns (25%).
