What Is An M–To–M Transfer?

An M–To–M transfer is a Majority-to-Minority Transfer. This transfer allows a student to apply for a transfer FROM a school where a student’s race is in the Majority TO a school where the student’s race is in the Minority.

What Does This Mean?

An African American student, zoned to a school that is projected to have a majority black enrollment next school year, is eligible to apply and receive approval to transfer to a public school in Tangipahoa Parish projected to have a majority white enrollment next school year.

A white student, zoned to a school that is projected to have a majority white enrollment next school year, is eligible to apply and receive approval to transfer to a public school in Tangipahoa Parish projected to have a majority African American enrollment next school year.


What If My Child Is On An

M–To–M Transfer Now?

If your child will remain at his or her current school for the 2014-2015 school year, you do not have to reapply. However, if your child has reached the terminal grade at the school, he or she must reapply.

When Should I Apply For M–To–M For the 2014-2015 School Year?

M–To–M transfer applications will be available February 10, 2014 through June 06, 2014. Completed applications are to be returned to the principal of the school your child attends now.

June 06, 2014 is the Deadline.

Where Can I Get An M–To–M Transfer Application?

An M–To–M Transfer application can be obtained from most public schools in Tangipahoa Parish and from the Central Office in Amite, Louisiana. Parents can also access the applications at www.tangischools.org.

When Will I Know If My M–To–M Transfer Request Is Approved?

You will receive a copy of the approved application before the first day of the new school year.


What Should I Do If My Request Is Approved And I Change My Mind And

Would Like To Have My Child Attend Their Zoned School?

A student may opt to return to his/her attendance zone school at the end of the first semester or at the end of the school year. However, if a student opts to return to his/her attendance zone at the end of a semester, he/she must give 15 days notice prior to beginning of the next semester. You must notify the Chief Desegregation Implementation Officer at the contact information provided in this brochure.

Will Transportation Be Provided?

Transportation will be provided to students who attend their zoned school’s paired minority school. If a parent selects an alternate minority school, then the Tangipahoa Parish School System will reimburse the parent for transporting the child to and from school up to $250.00 per semester.
