GRC May Minutes 2016

Candidates Night June 7 at 7pm School Gym
Lisa asked Cheryl if Jason [Lang] would moderate the proceeding
Joyce will get water and cookies

Joyce sent invitations to all the candidates: two races are contested—school board and 3rdSelectman
Building Use Form: Lisa submitted to Leslie at the school
June GRC meeting on June 7 at 6pm before the event
Tennis Courts and kids tennis lessons
Jason Riggs has submitted a bill for spring clean-up and regular maintenance:$180 and $250. Committee voted to accept. Mary is waiting for his proof of insurance.
Paul is working with Owen the tennis instructor for Saturday tennis lessons. Owen wants to do 6 sessions, but July 23 is not available due to the tri-centennial. Paul and Owen will work on schedule and Paul will submit an itemized bill for the lessons.
Blessing of the Fleet: July 3: Noon-3
Amy is working on the t-shirts and posters
Lisa has been talking with Keith at the Five Island Lobster Co. Will meet with him at the Wharf on May 17.
Band, Pastor Moore and Lauren Crosby are booked
Need volunteers to help with selling the t-shirts and helping with the crate races/etc.…
Discussion on the not having the “grease pole” this year in regards to the safety issue. Lisa will talk to Mark Donovan about it.
George is working with the Fire department to have their emergency vehicle there and George (and Justin?) will be in the water during the crate races.
Lisa asked Joyce about the GRC and Tri-centennial banners which she thought Joyce had. Joyce was not sure, but said she would look for them.
July 7 meeting will be all about the Blessing of the Fleet event
Tri-centennial 300th birthday celebration on July 23
The GRC will be running 2 kids games on this day. Games will include floating ducks in a tub so the (toddlers) will have an activity. There are plywood carnival cut-outs at Woodex left over from a school carnival the GRC did years ago. Lisa suggest we revive those and use.
Lisa will need to buy the ducks and beanbags for the games.
Volunteers are needed for this event: Cheryl will put it out on Facebook, too.
Community Center will supply a tent/canopy
Family Picnic: August 2 (instead of August meeting)
Picnic at the Tennis Courts/Ipcar Preserve at 5 pm
Hotdogs provided by GRC and people are encouraged to bring dish/snacks to share
Discussion on making this annual picnic into something bigger. Committee suggested keeping it the same.
There was also discussion on advertising it better to get more people to the event; In addition to posters and announcement on the sign boardswe could put a sign at the entrance, too.
Next GRC meeting on June7 at 6pm (with candidates night immediately following at 7 pm)
